For people with web sites...

Folks, If you run any kind of web site, be asking your service provider what kind of server they run it on, the latest net virus crap doing the rounds ,NIMDA , has already lunched one that I work for, shame for them they don't have a back up of it, more work for Mr J

If they are running on win2000/NT servers, I'd be taking a back up of your files quicksharp incase they get hit by it to,and then asking your provider to take measures to protect against this thing. If they are running on Linux based servers, breath easy.

What's worse tho is, one of my fave sites on the net also got lunched by this thing.....

Bummer, more shining examples of the gigantic holes in windows security.

News from the front...

Folks, I know I posted this yesterday, but I urge you to check your virus software and be damd carefull where you surf, why you ask?

As of about 10.30am this morning, my virus alarm panel went off on my pc at work, indicating that nimda.w32 had been detected entering our network at work, so far so good, whats worrying is tho it told me that no action had been taken, even tho the latest virus engine was installed on the network.

In the 45 seconds it took me to run from my desk to the server room, this little nugget managed to....

Replicate itself to over 900 machine on our WAN
Totaly obliterate the mainframe gateway servers, thus preventing about 8000 users up and down the country from using our gateway to access the mainframe system
Crash the mailservers, doing good knows what.
infect all the file servers at work.

I've spent all day on the friggin phone to the virus people getting updates sent to me , as this thing had mutated since it's original deployment, thats why out virus scanners which we pay £1000's for every year failed to pick it up. I've also had the mother and father of all shouting matches with my boss over this, as he was intent on laying blame at my door for not installing the patches correctly yesterday, huh he got that wrong.

So basically our company has been reduced to pen and paper to operate again, no systems running all day, most of them still down as I left, nothing more I could do today, no doubt I'll be locked in the server room all weekend re-building the servers and stuff.

So basically, if your running win2000/nt type software, for fucks sake make sure you are secure, I've got a friggin great week ahead of me next week to clear all this shit up.

Fucking viruses:mad:
