skin idea?
 

I have an idea for a skin...just getting people's oppinions on it...

"Blacklite"...it would be a skin that would look as though it had a blacklight shining on it...
lots of dark purple/black and neon/white colors...

does anyone know of a good way to get a blacklight-type effect in PSP7? I've tried some stuff, but haven't really found anything that works...

you could just make purple buttons and add a gradient glow which would make it look like it's a black light effect

thats what I was thinking but was too lazy to type it :)
you could try feathering selections and adding some dropshadows too.

I messed around with some effects on the main window and came up with this for a start. the jpeg is really crappy looking. the bmp is much nicer, so just imagine this picture with quality 30x better

it's not exactly black light, but I think it looks pretty good

I just wanted to get some oppinions, if I should keep going with it like this, or start over with something different to get more of a black light effect

nice start - the darks need to be darker, and the lights ligher. Maybe you should try putting this in a few crazy colors and then inverting that?

Oh, and avatars are supposed to be within 50x50 pixels. I don't care, but one of the mods might call you on it.

how'd he get an avatar largerthan 50x50... it doesnt let u chose an avatar larger than that

lot of people have avatars bigger than that width wise, but only like 25 pixels height wise. anywhere you see words that look the same underneath their forum status, its too big. thats why my letters are so small cause I didn't want anyone to call me on it :)

I don't know how my avaatar is that big...I tried to use this one, then it told me it had to be 50x50, so I changed it, but it's still this one...

and like I said...since that's a jpeg the quality is crap. in the bmp there is a much more drastic difference between the black and purple

this time it's a bmp so the quality doesn't suck...
(the pause button in the picture is depressed, so you can see what depressed buttons look like...)

wow...I downloaded that on my dad's computer and it looked really bad. More than half of the different shades of purple didn't show up.

It may be the color settings on the computer, but I changed the settings to really high and it was the same...

Is anyone else getting a problem with the colors? If you downloaded it and it's almost all black except the outline of the posbar and mainwindow and stuff like that, that's not what it's supposed to look like...and it looks alot better than that

i am on a tft screen.. my screen makes everything brighter then it is.. i experienced that on my skin the woodshop which has pretty dark stuff in the black.. but on my screen it looks very clear!!!

hehe I had the same problem too :D + that the colors still look a bit different in PSP than in Winamp thought I tried to adjust them throught the PSP menu?!

I was only planning to stay use black and purple...I kinda like everything all the same color like that...I dunno, maybe I'm wierd...

I'm kinda having trouble thinking of what to do with the volume and balance...to me those just seam broing compared to the rest of the skin...does anyone else think there boring or is that just me?

I'm kinda stuck on ideas for the eq and pl right now...but I'll probably think of something tomarrow at school...what else am I going to do there? learn? pfft! hahahaha

well...I seem to be having "skinner's block"...hehe...the little men that pop into my head and give me ideas have not come in a while. As I wait for them, I will continue to revise the main window. Here's another, slightly different pic of it.

I changed the volume, balance, posbar, and tried to smoth out the edge between the black and purple on the top left (note the emphasis on the word tried).

In this picture, the stop and volume buttons are in the depressed position, and shuffle and repeat are off (last picture they were on).

That is why I haven't done any of the eq yet...
I'm thinking making the sliders like the volume and balance. Does people think that would be good?

I personally absolutely love it! Pink is my favorite color! You are doing a fantastic job. Let me know when it is finished so I can d/l it.

I've seen some skins that seem like the volume sliders and stuff like that are transparent. is that just my imagination or can you really do that? I thought transparencies were only for the windows. If it is possible could somebody please direct me towards a tutorial that I can understand? I have tried to make transparencies with various tutorials, but I don't understand them...

These skins use "fake transparencies," that is, copying the background of what the slider/button/etc is to go over. Once you paste this in the image, just draw over that.

yeah, but there are some in which the background isn't the same all the way across the bar...oh well, maybe I'm just imagining things...

I have pretty much finished the main eq window, here 'tis!
I kinda went crazy with the sunbursts here, but I think they're neat! I think the part between the black and the crazy sunbursts needs a gradient or something so it's not just flat there...does other people think this also?

someone in another thread said something about how the music you listen to greatly affects the outcome of the skin...this is very true and this skin is a great example...
Main - P.O.D. - moderate usage of gradients and sunbursts
EQ - Godsmack (depressed) - went crazy with sunburts
PL - Morphine (you you haven't heard of them...you should) - went crazy with gradients (also much brighter than the EQ and Main. I'm also happy while making this, hence the brightness)

so's...can I pretty please with sugar and cherry and whipped cream and chocalate and caramel and....(you get the picture) have someone comment on any of that I just said?

i like it but i find the playlist font kinda hard to read :)
other than that i love it coz its purple and stuff....:D:D:D

I come back here in the morning and see this load of crap I post and barely remember it...sorry about that...

the playlist font - I'm still trying to find one that's cool and goes with the skin...the final font won't be this

I may do color variations depending on other people's opinions, or if I just feel like it...

I have noticed that the playlist (and MB and AVS - I did those and they look almost exactly like the PL) is very much differnt from the EQ and Main windows...I think I shall put the border that's around the PL around the EQ and Main windows...they've been screeming at me to give them a border for a while anyway...would this be a bad thing? opinions please. thanz in ardvarks...err...andvance

I decided the main window looked good without the border, but the eq was a little boring, so I bordered the eq and here's the *finished* skin

I haven't doen the eq winshades, but I'm gonna do that right now...

I think I'm going to submit then skin before I do the cursors because I want to make some really good animated cursors, and I expect that to take a while. I've tried made a few as a test sorta, but winamp doesn't recognize them...any one know why not?

whoops...I already found and fixed some bugs, and changed the pl so it looks more like the main and eq, so don't dl the thing in my previous post...I would delete it but I can't anymore, = \
