Morpheus

Has anyone else been having wierd problems with Morpheus/Kazaa/that other one? Until about 11:00pm, I can't get anything to download. I'll queue up a big list of songs and such, but none of them ever download. All I get is "more sources needed." If there are no sources, why were the songs listed?

At about 11:00pm, I can stuff to strt downloading. At about 3:00am, stuff moves decently. Still, most of the time, I can't get anything to download. What's going on? With 500 TB shared on the network, I should be able to get whatever I want.

Does the fasttrack network disply the files for those who aren't sharing? That would be ridiculously homoerotic, but it would explain a little bit my Morpheus problems.

i keep getting the queue crap....
how am i suppose to download music?

Curi0us_George 2nd October 2001 00:03

I wish I could at least get the queue crap. If it is remotely queueing, you are just going to have to wait, I guess. :(

If it is just saying queued, then they are queued on your computer. You can turn up the number of downloads in the preferennces.

or you could get a real filesharing client like gnucleus.

Aeroe 2nd October 2001 00:12

no problems here

eeewww gnucleus :p

papadoc 2nd October 2001 00:24

No problems with Morpheus for me.
I downloaded a Paul Van Dyke mix just a bit ago
with no problem.
And there's been 3 successful uploads from my system
this afternoon.

Curi0us_George 2nd October 2001 00:43

Hmm. Maybe my comp just sucks like that. :)

papadoc 2nd October 2001 00:48

Just to make sure CuriOus_George,
I'm downloading a Timo Maas CD as I'm writing this.
It's zipping right along.
Hope you get things working right soon.

Curi0us_George 2nd October 2001 00:58

Well, I'm glad someone is getting it to work. :D

Mine looks like this:

More sour. . .
More sour. . .
More sour. . .
More sour. . .
More sour. . .
More sour. . .
etc. . .

I added ten copies of the same song (different names, slightly) to my download list hoping that one of them would work. No go.

I'm afraid to use Morpheus. Half the users get infected with a virus, so I'm not going anywhere near that thing.

As for Kazaa, the whole thing is loaded with spyware, including TOPtext.

Try using WinMx. That usually works for me. Good luck with your downloading. :)

missyob 2nd October 2001 01:33

I like WinMx best for music also. I have tried most of the file sharing programs out there, but like WinMx because it is very user friendly.

Anyone using any type of file sharing program is dumb as bricks
if they don't pay attention to what their downloading me thinks.
Not just Morpheus users. :)

Best fot the music is AudioGalaxy. But films, games, and other files - Morpheus, and others... :)

I prefer AG...

SSJ4 Gogitta 2nd October 2001 05:03

2 words:

DIRECT CONNECT

:D

Bop 2nd October 2001 05:27

never really had any probs with morpheus, but i prefer audiogalaxy...have you checked to see if you changed the preferences so you can download multiple files? only thing i can think of ...

hey ssj4- tell me a little about that direct connect thing: is it set up like napster was or audiogalaxy? how's the availability? and is it safe?

sscw46 2nd October 2001 22:39

Audiogalaxy sucks. It comes with WebHancer, the most dreaded spyware, IMO. Hence the quote on my siggy. :D

Matt 2nd October 2001 22:49

What's all this spyware obsession lark? It's not like they monitor everything. They won't come round and kill you for downloading an mp3.

Morpheus / Kazaa rules all
:)

lunarboy1 2nd October 2001 22:51

/me loves my Kazaa dearly atleast until something better comes out :)

lunarboy1 2nd October 2001 23:00

yea.. that freaks me out that people are lookin at what i'm doin.. even if it is all legal

Huehuetenango 2nd October 2001 23:42

ever since napster went belly up i haven't been downloading stuff.
i've been borrowing and ripping cd's from friends
or buying cds
i don't see hte need to download movies and tv shows and such
i jsut get my friends to and burn them for me

s1138 3rd October 2001 00:03

go ahead and istall spyware!!!!! you know what i say:
_-|-- yeah im downloadin porn! YOU GOTTA PROBLEM WITH IT, BITCH!!

:D

sscw46 3rd October 2001 00:37

WebHancer rewrites your winsock so if you uninstall it, you won't be able to go online anymore.

The dangerous thing about spyware is that your IP Address starts floating around in public. Bastards who look for these types of things can connect to your computer and download anything they want off your hard drive. Even though many people's IP addresses are out in the open anyway, I still wouldn't want to give another asshole the opportunity to download anything personal from my computer.

Ad-aware: http://www.lavasoftusa.com :D

eleet-2k2 3rd October 2001 01:29

Ahh!! I better not get it then.
/me utters threats of smashing a disk with webhancer on it

Anyway, no problems on my end about Morpheus. Little tip, if it is remoltely quede, just click the resume button to get the download to work. Unless the person you are d/l'ing from doesn't want you to and makes you wait your turn, this is a nice little trick. (if even that)

sscw46 3rd October 2001 03:54

Well, you could get rid of WebHancer and restore your winsock by scanning your registry with Ad-aware, but there are some disadvantages. Some of the programs that you downloaded that contain spyware might stop functioning when the spyware is removed.

Fortunately, Audiogalaxy seems to work fine after WebHancer is removed. :)
