Balancing volume on multiple files

Before anyone flmaes me for my ignorance, I DID search the technical forums first to try and answer my question. If it was there and I missed it, I apologize.

I am trying to figure out how to get all my files that I am putting on my 9/11/01 tribute cd at the same volume. I am combining both tracks that I have converted from CD's and files that I have downloaded from various services. I find that one track is at the right volume when played back and the next is very quiet and then the next is loud again.

I have seen people talk about being able to equalize everything, but no one has posted what program to use or how to do it. I need something that is fairly easy cuz I am a dolt at times :)

Thank you for any advice
