Winamp 2.77 in Windows XP proffesional

Winamp 2.77 gets the "cannot create direct sound object" in XP proffessional.
No amount of driver updates or DX patches fixes it.

I've run it in every compatibility mode on offer but no luck.

If anyone else using XP has any suggestions........

The good news is Winamp 3 Alpha L8R works flawlessly in XP pro !

System Specs =
PIII450, 512MbRAM, ASUS GeForce 256 SGR + Nvidia TNT2 M64 Pro (second monitor), DVD, SB128.

P.S. Windows media player 8 sucks real bad.

winamp preferences / plugins / output, select Nullsoft waveOut plugin

wa2.77 works 100% ok on WinXP Prof here, so just follow the advice of PP and Sawg ... :p
