Problem with my new skin

Ok. Hi. I think I am in the right place.

Anyway, I have made several high quality skins in the past, and just recently (about 3 weeks ago) submitted a skin for reviewing. This morning I received an email stating "We experienced problems during installation. This needs to be resolved." I have no idea what this means. And I would like advice as to what to do next. It doesn't address a particular aspect that caused a problem, so do I remake my entire skin? HMMM? Anyway, I was just hoping someone might have had this problem before and might know how to handle it. Any ideas will gladly be accepted at bposeley@calpoly.edu.

Thanks!

posting a screenshot

Ok, thank you for your insight. One question though, what is the easiest way to post a screenshot in here. I'd gladly do it if I knew how.

Thanks!

hit the Prt Scr button on ur keyboard while winamp is showing on the desktop... then paste the screenshot into ur paint program, and crop it. then upload it in the forums so we can see it (using the upload feature)

Alright. Hopefully this message will have a screenshot of my new skin that I am having problems with.

Basically, as a reminder, I am trying to figure out what is wrong with my skin, or why Winamp said there were problems with my file. Here it is for all the world to see, just don't go copying it if you like it. ;)

Thanks again.

Do you use 16 bit images to make your skin?

16 bit images cause preview screen shots to become corrupt, and thus the skin gets rejected when review time comes around. It may look ok on your pc when running it, but the winamp DB has a problem with it.

Try increasing the colour depth to 24bit, this shouldn't cause a problem.

If you are unsure as to what you are using, then either...

1) provide me with the skin ID number , and I'll check it out in the DB, skin ID number can be checked by looking at the component in your developer account, its a five digit number.

2) mail me the skin exactly as you submit it to winamp.com and I'll take a look at this end an tell you what your using.

Mail it to "my_skins_bust@jones-town.co.uk"

My only thought about 16bit vs 32 bit is that my last two skins were accepted without any problem, and I have done nothing different in the construction of this skin that suggests it is different than the other two.

I could probably check the 16bit thing on my own, but I am not sure where that information can be found, and if I discover that it is 16, how I can change it to 32... HINT: I use Photoshop 6.0 for all aspects of the skin.

Please let me know, I would be very greatful.

Dude, I've checked your skin, its all in 32bit, so your ok there, I've uploaded it in my account and the screen shots look fine to me, so next thing is I need your skin ID number, just cos it's unpublished it will have an id.

Pull up the skin in your developers account, look for the line that shows your skin, it'll have the skin name, then over to the right, it'll say EDIT DELETE

Wave your cursor over the edit part and look to the staus bar on your web browser, you will see something like the following...

http://www.winamp.com/user/submit/ed...ponentId=82404

The ID is the five digit at the end, if you can find me that I'll check it in the database, it may have just been an error on the part of the database that caused you to get the e-mail, that happens sometimes as well.

Cheers.

MalibuBee 16th October 2001 19:49

I found the ID!

Alright, thank you Mr. Jones, for all the help you've provided do far. As you instructed, I found the component ID, (I guess I was wrong about not having one yet - sorry), and the number is....
80801!

Ok! Do your magic. I'll be waiting.
Thanks again.

Mr Jones 16th October 2001 19:56

I'm reviewing now, I'll check see what the prob , if any is....

Mr Jones 16th October 2001 20:00

Check your mail, I think you may have been sent the rejection note due to a db fuck up, I've reviewed and published it anyhow, as it was near enuff to being published anyhow.

MalibuBee 16th October 2001 20:04

THANK YOU

Thank you so much for all you have done. I'm sure you get tons of these requests, so I greatly appreciate all that you have done.

Mr Jones 16th October 2001 20:10

No problemo, us review guys are here to help, and yes the DB does cause some headaches, but we get there in the end :)

Round of applaus (sp?) for Mr Jones, and the rest of the review squad. You deserve it! Thanks for giving your time to our skins.

PS: I'm not sucking up! They deserve it.
