Front/Rear speakers reversed when playing CD's...
Since I upgraded to the latest version of Winamp, 2.77, I've played nothing but MP3's. No particular reason, I just hadn't tried a CD 'til about five minutes ago. Turns out that now, for some odd reason, the front and rear speakers have switched place. I get sound out of the two rear ones (it's incredibly loud, too), but not the front. Everything works fine when playing MP3's, and CD's play fine in Windows Media Player; what could possibly be causing this?
As far as system specs go: Athlon Classic 700 w/768MB PC100 SDRAM MS-6167 motherboard SBLive! Platinum (NOT a 5.1 Platinum) Cambridge Soundworks FPS1000 speakers with sub Windows 2000 Pro, SP2 And no, I don't have gen_nomad.dll ANYWHERE on my computer. Hell, I don't even have Playcenter installed. Anybody know what's going on here? |
1) With Winamp closed, install the CDReader input plug-in and follow the instructions.
2) In Winamp, hold Ctrl and press P, go to the Output Plug-Ins section and select DirectSound. |
Hmm....no luck. Still no sound from the front speakers.

As Neo said . . . follow the instructions.
Did you disable the default plugin (in_cdda.dll) by renaming it with the OFF extension? |
Oh, yeah. Oops. :) But we have to use a third party plugin just to get the speakers to work properly? Nullsoft is planning on fixing this, right?

Well, the thing is, I didn't MIND just using the two speakers. The problem was that Winamp was using the wrong two. And, as a matter of fact, before version 2.77, it worked perfectly. No plugin required. That's what I mean by "fix".

Well, CDReader is better than the CD plug-in which is packed with Winamp. I don't know why we don't just include it in the installer rather than the standard one :D
