My new skin.
 

It's taken me 2 days, 15 layers, and loss of hair (pulling it out) to get this far. The thought of doing the MB, AVS, and all the little extras like Mikro and Cursors scares the hell out of me. Anywayz, attached is a rough draft, any comments, suggestions, or ego builders would be extremely appreciated. I may or may not add more leaves, I may or may not include flowers of some sort (probably roses), but will absolutely positively be making most of the buttons/text red.

or how bout in white? I like the white better I think :)

I can appreciate that Bobo, what don't you like about it though? Any suggestions on how to improve it?

I personally like the white the most.
But I do feel it is too sharp.
Can't you make a slight grey-ish back ground so the contrast isn't that hindering.

But I wouldn't go with the black one cuz of the lack of overview.

But pretty damn sweet.

I really really like your sig, but the skin is slightly disappointing. I don't like the framework being the branch. I would prefer a skin, with the branches interfering and mingling with the buttons. If you see what you mean. BTW, Very nice work on the branches though, very good detail.

i agree with skinme with the way the braches/bars should interact more with the skin, but i understand that would make it much harder, and you should at least have one rose in the lower right corner,

im totally undecided between the white and black, the white looks cleaner and allows for shadows and shading, but the black would make red text/buttons look soooo cool, white with red would look a little out of place, unless they were thick red buttons, that were blended into the skin, of beveled in2 it.

well, the cbuttons are actually ..well have a look..

but I'm not sure what you mean exactly, want I should throw some more branches across the buttons? on the buttons themselves? <----didn't get that far. Clue me in, I'm open. I'm not completely set on what to do with the buttons anyway.

What i'm saying is weave the brances around a little bit, they seem to be more or less running straight thru

but at that time i thought the cbuttons were totally in the black! they placements of them should work well in that position


roses would look really kool as the cbuttons especially if they opened and showed the function peeping out on click!

ok will do that, add more branches to throw off the monotony. going to add and move around a few leaves too, and will likely settle on a shade of gray that will not kill the depth, but will allow the red (or I might go with green) text to stand out.
next update - quite a few hours from now...

green would be very cool!! providing that you had some red controls somewhere in the skin

not sure what to make of your skin right now, but i think a nice background will improve it. give it some depth maybe.

Are you gonna have the blood dripping? I love that effect, it's so wonderfully different. I think this definetly has potential, as long as you bring in some variation. Like you said above, more random place,ment of branches would be a great idea. I'd prefer red to green, but that's just my personal preference.

Ripe, thats nothing, see Weed's sig? 100 frames exactly (transferred over from countless layers before that). Not quite as much information as a skin, but the pixel by pixel editing was a pain in the behind.

Seriously Forever, this is shaping up to look like a great skin, despite my earlier worries. Gonna be one of the best yet!

LOL yeah I made weed's sig for him, he had started a thread in general discussion crying he needed one so I thought I'd make his sig my current charity case (made him two actually, that just happened to be the best one).

I hated to kill off the spider at the end... sigh. The only reason I did was to get some red going. I love red and black.

(sorry no update yet, I don't want to show anything till I get at least the cbuttons finished)

cant say i like your concept. its a bit repetitive and boring. same colors over and over. make it more freeform. make it something like breedamp (but different :P)

definitely not settled on the monoster yet. might just go for text, or something else there. still going to add thorns, much work to be done. Just something sloppy I threw together to give you an idea of how the cbuttons will animate.
for the record, this is all still hand drawn too.

I'm still not settled on the background color

ok I think I settled on the background, softened up the leaves a bit on the edges so they're not so stark against the brown.
What think you's on this background? I think red text (or even red mixed with some green) will show up quite nicely. Not only that but it blends the branches so well without losing all of its depth. Who'd a thunk it...

At the risk of sounding mushy (blech)
Its only getting cool because of the people in here who point out the little things to me. Like for example, I would've continued on with the metal framework, not even thinking twice about it, because I was originally going for that contrast (plus to try and match my sig). It never would've occured to me that using all branches would look better.
I only recently began to understand why people start threads with just the idea, then continue on posting updates to various components and stuff and continuing to incorporate feedback. Because it is very much a community effort that gives these "skin love" skins, such an awesome quality.
Now everyone, go make a quality skin!!! Lets take back the database and over-run the skinner.exe's!!

I tried putting the controls inside the rose, and it didn't look right. What think you's on the red text and the subtle green controls. They disappear when the rose blooms (onclick).
Shuffle is active, repeat is active in this picture, and stereo is active.

[edit]I had to skip the thorns, I couldn't make them look right. I did throw some darker leaves into the background and will likely add more.
