I have over 1000 mp3 files on my computer, with over 100 complete albums.

I dont know the specs of my computer, I am lucky to be able to turn this thing on!

first off is you have a sdram board, you cannot use ddr ram in it, unless your board supports both types but most likely it does not, theres your first mistake, secondly if you say its a 256 mb, i think you mean it has a 266 chipset not a 256, wrong again.

then you say you have an altec lansing 12 inch sub with surround speakers, i have the same speakers and its only a 8 inch sub, altec does not make a 12 inch sub, soo your wrong again. dont belive me , check out altecs web site

then you say you have a 32x hp cdwriter plus, hp does not yet have a 32 speed, they only have a 24x burner out there, wrong yet again, check out hp.com

finally your last mistake is you say you have a laser guided mouse, it is actually not LASER quided, it is just optical

if your going to post your computer specks make sure they are right

anyways heres the specs for the computer i am going to buy

Motherboard - asus a7v266 , ddr
cpu - amd tbird 1.4ghz w/ 266

By the proper computer definition a kilobyte is 2^10 (two to the power ten) bytes, which is 1024 bytes.
A megabyte is 2^20 bytes, or 1,048,756.
A gigabyte is 2^30 bytes, or 1,073,741,824.
(Though IEEE and others have defines prefixes for binary multiples).

Now marketing department comes in and says Kilo is 1000, Mega is 1,000,000 and Gig is 1,000,000,000.

Now 20.4*10^9 is about the same size as 19.0*2^30
BUT what sounds better?
20.4 Gig or 19.0 Gig?

Ya.. i know.. marketers are smart fuckers... hehe

First off I do have a Motherboard that supports both and it costed a fucking lot so your wrong.

Second I said I don't know the specs or info about motherboards so don't bitch about that.

Third it is a 12" sub since I measured it's width. Maybe you don't understand that companies don't always have all the models on the website.

Forth I GARENTEE 100% that they make 32x. What I think you were thinking was actual burner speed not read speed, which is what I was referring to.

Last about the mouse, yes you caught one mistake but if the technical term is optical thats great. Its still a laser mouse and the laser is whats guides the movement on screen.

So in the end your just a completely negative person that doesn't know what he is talking about and should probably find something better to do than attack people on forums. Besides was this post suppost to be a negative, no. I was being nice by starting this thread.

So in the end all I can say is don't be an ass (but you have been), do research before you post stupid things, and keep your mouth were your dick is if you don't know for 100% that your right.

2548 in my c:\mp3 folder. I don't have many on cd, it's WAY too much work to put a cd in the cdrom drive and load them in Winamp ;). I use Grokster (much like kazaa, it's on the same network) and WinMX to get new mp3s.

Specs:
- P3-800 (way too slow, i'm gonna buy an athlon next time)
- Asus Geforce MX (bit slow, bad tv-out)
- 256 MB sd-ram
- 45gb HD (c attachment)
- 17" Philips 107P monitor
- SB live, Hoontech add-on card (for optical digital out)
- Labtec 4 speakers + subbie (for playing games) and a DD/DTS receiver (for listening to mp3)
- cheapest logical mouse (working great, i don't need the optical/ wireless shit)
- MS Sidewinder joystick + extention cable (i use it to skip to the next song in Winamp)
- DVD drive (don't even know the brand)
- 16x10x40 Lite-on cd writer
- Did i forget something?

Slogra 25th October 2001 16:06

Ok, one more thing... more ram is NOT always better. It's testen on 3d mark 2000 (maybe 2001 i don't know), but the result was that when you got more that 384MB RAM you get less fps :p.

As for the PC, it's a 1,1ghz Intel job, with 1536mb RAM... (I mean it was going for 40 quid for 512mb at my local PC shop - so I just had to max it out :D )

It's full up with other crap too, like firewire etc, but I can't be bothered to list it all.

Nofx Guy 25th October 2001 21:36

anyone know how much ram win xp can support, is it the standard 512mb like 98 and me??

dylman 25th October 2001 21:41

I've got a Compaq Internet Keyboard that doesn't work anymore.
When I press \ I get 9\ and the Caps Lock goes on and off. The volume up key and the sleep key both turn the computer off far more quickly than the normal way (which is handy), my left cursor does dashes and my down cursor is now return, apparently. And Alt isn't Alt anymore, I haven't found which key is yet. The little Enter key launches some weird program for configuring keys, and don't even mention the numeric keypad.

I've got 512mb SDRAM, because it's cheaper than beer at the moment.
Next month It'll be 640mb. Hooray. I might even buy a new keyboard.

dylman 25th October 2001 21:44

Hang on a minute... I've got WinME, can I upgrade any more memory?

My motherboard supports 768mb, and I've got a sticker on the box saying "Designed for WinME", so surely I can? Or have Compaq and Microsoft been LYING to me?

Aeroe 25th October 2001 21:50

geeks...

I currently use Morpheus for mp3s, totalling 301. Not many, but I tend to delete often.

900mhz Slot-A K7
AI61 Mobo
384mb SDRAM PC133 (one 128mb stick and one 256 stick)
ATI Rage Fury 128 32mb card, soon to own a GeForce 2 64mb.
13.3gb Maxtor HD, fixed it
30gb WesternDigital HD
No burner as of now, gave my PacificDigital 4/4/24 to my sis
anything else.... nah

you can have a 5ghz and a 500gb hd in a couple years and most of you will still be on dialup taking 30min for a song. :D
/me hugs his cable modem

1gb of ram on a 350mhz? that's overkill...

Ok you really don't give up as I can tell. Let me explain things a bit better... I didn't post that it was the only thing my board support. I said the fucking name which doesn't include DDR in it but it supports both.

I probably should of posted the burn speed but I guess I forgot.

I don't have to take it out of the box since underneath I can see the thing since it has small holes which allow viewing of the actual sub (You are obviously not familar with car or computer audio since this is almost on all types of subs).

Well last if you did talk to a friend at a computer store just for a post on the winamp forums. GET A LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Next I did research too but you made a lot of assumptions and don't tell me you talked to your friend about all the stuff since there are big mistakes.

Also if you notice originally when posting my board specs and again in my reply I said that I DON'T KNOW ALL THE DETAILs. I still believe that you trying to prove someone wrong in their specs then you are an ass and have no life.

Just watch it buddy since I will write your name down and ban you from the Audioteque.net website when me, ice, RT, Kevin (song meanings), and Shahman finish it.

okay lets not get all pissy about this, im not trying to argue, you just assumed that i did when you first replied to my original message. fuck if all it takes to stop you being all bitchy is admitting im wrong, then fine, im wrong, you can go hug yourself now. and i do have a life, my friend from the computer store i talked to was on icq, i talk to him all the time, he just happened to be on when i was reading you post so i sent him the url to check it out. and i am familiar with car/computer audio, i have a set of altec 5.1's. i disagree that you can correctly measure the sub from looking threw the holes, if you wanted to find out the true specs you have to look in you system specs manual that came with your speakers, but whatever if you want to meaure it that way, go ahead. and finally if you want to ban me from audioteque.net than go ahead i probably wouldnt have ever heard of the site anyways, and i probably would have never gone there anyways. now if you want to respond to this with another argumentive post , go ahead, i just wont respond anymore because im not trying to argue with you, i never was trying to argue with you, i never was trying to be an ass, all i was doing is trying to show you and find out for myself, that there was a few things in your system specs that just didnt add up, they now have clarified themselves and i understand your specs , no need for anymore bitching and arguing, if i did sound like an ass or trying to prove you wrong in my original post it was unintentional (fux0red up spelling) and in my second post the only reason i was pissed off was because you were bitching in your response.

so again like i said, i did not want to start a big fight over this, if i sounded like an ass i am sorry, lets just let it go..

i sent you a PM also..

I beleive the upper limit on WinXP's ram is somewhere in the 4GB range, but i could be wrong, at the very least rest assured it's more then you could ever cram into it. (maxed out my poor workstation at 3GB of SDRAM and winxp didn't even hicup... and the terminal servers at work sit with 3.5GB of RDRam without a problem... at the least it's a 4GB limit)
