Indeed. I see a big increase in visitors and members logged on. The most users online record was beaten by quite a lot earlier

Yes I am sad for knowing that.

Curious as to what's drawing them here suddenly...
Who's advertising? Is there a commercial? Subliminal messages in AoLv7.0?

Well, now that you know why I'm here, I will have to kill you. Sorry, nothing personal, but the Timecube told me to

Ah, back in the old EFNet days of IRC, a heavy build-up of users usually means a channel take-over attempt is imminent.

papadoc 27th October 2001 00:51

There's a high school fellow that sits
behind me in the afternoon at school.
He looked over on my computer and saw me changing my Winamp skin.
He thought that was so cool.
So he downloaded Winamp, and started telling all his friends
there at school about Winamp.
They all started installing Winamp, and I keep getting "how do I" messages
about skins and plug-ins and the message boards from them.
Woops...I did it...I let the llama out of the bag.
Damn that Timecube.
:D

SarCaSM 27th October 2001 00:55

what the hell high school do you go to where they don't know about Winamp? Damn, thats kind of sad. :/

papadoc 27th October 2001 00:58

Its not a high school, but thanks for the compliment.
Its a vocational school specializing in computer technology.
Most the kids there are just getting into computers and
don't know allot.
That's why theyr'e there.

i dont know bilbo...i havent used a school computer in awhile.

John M 27th October 2001 11:35

i got most of my friends using winamp. thers nothing to brighten up your morning like hearing:

'Damn Windows Media Player sucks. Winamp is fuckin pimp.'

DuaneJeffers 27th October 2001 19:10

I believe the sudden increase of people are due to Winamp3. The 50 Million+ users are trying to find out more and they have to join to post anything in here. Also, the day WinXP was release, we saw a sudden increase of people and we broke our record by having 450+ posters.

True True, but if you only stay in one forum, then you would say that. Take me for instance, I finally decide to get out of my hole in the NSIS discussions and I see that MissyOB has become Forum Queen, and alot more "new" people are going up in ranks. Now, I used to visit all over the forums, now it is only a few times I will come out of NSIS disscussions to talk. I am not saying that you travel to every single discussion or just stay here in the General Disscussions, but when was the last time you went to the Tech Support forums just to help others. There are new people joining every day just so they can post their thoughts and ideas.

So, I ask you sawg, What forums have you visited recently, and how many new people posted??? I know for a fact you hardly go to the NSIS disscussions and we are having at least 2 new people a day talking and asking questions.

Also, for those lurkers out there. Join, and add to the discussions here. Stop soaking up JUST our knowledge and let us learn from yours.

well, does anyone know if there was this forum when the first ever winamp came out?

griffinn 28th October 2001 10:43

The Winamp Forums started in April 2000, I think. The first Winamp came out in, oh I don't know, maybe 1999?

s1138 28th October 2001 11:14

there were forums before that.

but the community was smaller, and the forum was in a tree format (like old sonique sorta)

that was back when the site was red and black.
