A little tech question....

I would ask this in #******* or someone on AIM, but everyone is freakin idle-ing!!!! :)

Anyways, I want to know if it is possible to use BOTH my cable connection AND a dial up connection at the same time.

The reason for this is, every time I play Quake 3, my crappy cable connection ping spikes above 999ms at least 3-4 times a minute!
I want to be able to use my Earthlink Dial Up as a backup connection whenever my cable starts lagging so it gets rid of those ping spikes, i'd rather have 300 ms lag than 999+ms.

So, is it possible?

IT should be.

It's possible to have both a network connection and a dial-up connection, and flip between them using some .bat files that change the route table with the "route" command.
code:
route add 0.0.0.0 mask 0.0.0.0 <connection's_ip>
But while there's a TCP connection already open during an online game session, even if you switch to the other channel, that session is still gonna go through the old route. There's nothing you can do about this unless you disconnect the game session, but that defeats your purpose.

Here's what you can do...

Recepie:
2x computers, one with modem connected and one with other connection.
1x network

Install a proxy server on one of the machines (the one with the modem for example). Then you can connect them both to the internet simultaneously. Use all programs on the PC with the cablemodem. Any programs you want to use the modem specify a proxy in their settings. For all other programs just keep the settings of no proxy.

The only problem being that I'm not sure if you can automatically switch between the two :(

Just some random thoughts (I'm bored, can you tell!)
