Omnitarian 30th October 2001 02:26

Ah well, AOL is still evil.

oand i don't mind the company AOL, they (own) a lot of companies which are decent (like Nullsoft for example) and ICQ. It's just that they have a shite browser. that's all.

AOL is successful.

[cough]idiot[/cough]

RanDom_ErrOr 1st November 2001 20:48

AOL sucks ass and licks my nuts...

Aeroe 2nd November 2001 00:29

aol is another american dream actually
a man with an idea creates a sucessful company under a capitalist economy. the same company that employs tens of thousands worldwide including some other smaller companies, Nullsoft du'h.

i find it amusing that some 12 year-old geeks think it's el33t to put "AOL sucks" buttons on their hax0r tripod websites that provide stupid vb programs to enable booters and fake aol tech emails.

i can go as far as saying that microsoft itself is another example of capitalism. a powerful corporation that unlike what socialist websites like theregister.com says, is in fact a pillar of the worldwide economy. at least in the tech field. another corporation that employs thousands of people worldwide as well...

RanDom_ErrOr 2nd November 2001 02:06

it sounds like Aeroe is an AOL spy who's been brainwashed into thinking that AOL is god... :) j/k

Anacific 2nd November 2001 03:21

No, it's just that Aeroe thinks rationally unlike some:rolleyes:

RanDom_ErrOr 3rd November 2001 19:26

i think rationally when i dont take my medicine :) j/k

AOL is one of the ultimate symbols of capitalist evil.

It is part of a much greater entity.

I wouldn't go so far as to call them evil. Anyone who brings the net to millions at a cheap, affordable price, with relative ease is good in my books. And, Aeroe made some real good points.

The dial-up ISP market is one of the best working examples of the yumminess of capitalism.

Bilbo Baggins 3rd November 2001 20:56

But isn't the internet a very raw form of that most basic of communist ideals where we are all equals, and should be equal in property. IN the case of the net, it being the fact that we share music, programs and knowledge?

The internet, initself, is neither capitalist or socialist. Like a capitalist system, there is a disparity in classes. We have people who know PERL, PHP, etc., and people on AOL. We have people on broadband, and people on dial-up. However, (as in a corrupted socialist system, and unlike a pure capitalist sustem), these disparities are not based on merit. They are due to external factors, beyond the control of the Internet . Even among discussion groups and so on, distinct social groups form, which are clearly not equal.

RanDom_ErrOr 7th November 2001 01:09

good point RMan...

jobeus 9th November 2001 05:01

Personally, I'm still really pissed about the changing of IM protocols so that clones won't work. I want my *nix console-based icq back, damnit!
