My first transparency

1 Attachment(s)
Hello eveyone, I'm a new member to these forums, but I've been coming here for quite some time. Anyway, I've been making skins for a while, mostly with Microsoft Paint even though I recently got Photoshop 6, and they've all sucked majorly.

This is my newest skin, although done with MSPaint, I think it might acutally be ok. This is also my first skin using transparency, so I'm a little exciting (the blue is the transparent area).

Should I continue?

I know alot of people who dislike transparent based skin. It all depends how it is used though.
In your case, you have made basically everything that is not required transparent, and it will not go down to well as a good way of creating a skin in many people's books, well that's my opinion anyway.
It looks too boxy and un-original.
You also got to think how the transparent look is going to relate against the playlist.. and from ur bitmap post, it may be hard to create that pl.
Next time you post a skin, make it browser compatible so no downloading is required.
If you think MSpaint is ok, try PSP7, it shits on it, and easy to use.

I suggest more connectors, make windows match (cbuttons, shufrep) volume and balance can be thinner and match with the EQ, etc. I like this concept though, nice and simple, clean skin with the transparencies only adding to it, instead of "removing"? heh... anywayz, I think you're off to an excellent start with this one. And to get an idea of what I mean (re: suggestions), I took the liberty to quickly toss something together. Feel free to use it if you want it, or just as a guideline. It isn't exactly how I would want it to be at the end of the project, I just wanted to give you an idea.

I thank you both for your honesty.

I must agree with you Forever, and I think that what you did to it makes it look much better. Thanks.

Now, i've got a question, how do you make a screenshot like that, one that is browser compatible? It might seem stupid, but I'm kinda slow...

don't make it a bmp
make it a gif, jpeg, or png (i think)

i think that's what it means, anyway

you say you're using photshop 6?

I personally recommend you get Paint Shop Pro 7, its much less involved and easier to use.

Disregard anyone who's negative towards your work. It looks pretty good to me considering its your debut skin.

Anywayz, take your main.bmp and click "file" then click "save as" (not save, save as!), you'll see two windows, one where you name it, and the second (labeled "format:"). In the "Format:" window, click the drop down arrow and select gif, jpg, tif, or png. All of them should work. When you attach a bmp it forces people to either download, or open their paint program to view it from location.

does this help?

Thanks again everyone. I'll remember not to use bitmaps for attachments again :D .

Does anyone know of a good transparency program by any chance? I'm sorry to bother you all, but I've done a little work on region.txt and it takes a long time...

Want some help with transparency editing?
I found this program this arvo at Maxim's website, havnt used it cause I dont use editors, so I dont know how good it is.. but according to Maxim, its probably the best editor there is.
Remember to read the 'readme.txt' first.

I thought I'd just show my progress and see what you guys have to say about it. Feel free to let me know!

(That's an American flag background on my desktop, btw. I got the transparency to work)

Neko 7th November 2001 04:51

in my honest opinion, a few times i had the idea of doing such a skin, where everything that wasnt needed was transparent, but the problem is, it then becomes a pain in the ass to use, i applaude your experimenting and willingess to try something different, but it honestly wont be that popular a skin due to its nature

Nini 7th November 2001 07:52

I like iit..it's original, me thinks (transparency!!) and I like the way youve put the solid part in to connect main and eq. Keep going!!! :D
MSPAINT???! :D
