Hmmmmm ...

1) Does your problem only happen with MP3s or with other formats as well, such as WAV?

2) Make sure you turned up the volume in Winamp's main window to a decent value.

3) Try this: Open up Winamp first, then press both CTRL-P to bring up the Winamp preferences window. There you go to Plug-ins -> Output -> doubleclick on the entry which says Nullsoft waveOut plug-in v2.3. That should make a new configuration window to appear. In there, locate the Volume control - area at the bottom of the window, and checkmark the box named Enable. Also checkmark Alt. setting mode, so Winamp won't fudge with the Windows Mixer Wave volume anymore :).

4) Download CD-Reader, an alternate, digital CD audio playback plugin for Winamp. Read its accompanying instructions throughly to know how to set it up correctly.

5) Check the Windows Mixer if both CD audio and Wave volume sliders are neither muted, nor turned down too low. Double click on the tiny yellowish speaker icon in the right bottom of your screen, next to the clock. Check both the Playback and Recording sections of the mixer, and set the volume levels up to decent levels :).

6) Are any other applications affected, by any way?

7) If nothing helps, delete a file called Winamp.ini, which is located in Winamp's root directory. Usually, that is C:\Program Files\Winamp.

8) If deleting the Winamp.ini file does not improve your situation, then completely uninstall Winamp, and reinstall the latest version.

I hope that something will be useful for you. Good luck :D.

Peace.

10) ah, forgot to tell you: Delete any 3rd party plugins, if you have any installed. Some of those are really bitchy and tend to screw up Winamp entirely  :(.

Peace.
