erasing a shortcut
 I finally cleaned out my computer and erased napster only to realize on the next loadup of winamp that while it worked it said there was a error finding a shortcut because napster was gone, I'm now using kazaa . Maybe I'm braindead from to much work but I cannot think of how to remove this annonyance. I know this is a dumb question but any help would be appreciated.

Not sure, but did you install the napamp plugin (Napster plugin for Winamp)?
If so, close Winamp & remove the relevant gen_*.dll file from the winamp\plugins dir and all should be ok again. |
it is also possible that when you uninstalled napster, the library could have also been deleted in the napster folder along with the rest of the program files, unless you had them downloaded in another folder
|
Thanks for the help. No there was'nt any napster plugin but the second idea does sound plausible. How would I go about fixing that if I did erase the libary. Mind you it's more of an annoyance then anything because the music is still there.
|
If you deleted the Library, you are pretty much screwed. The songs are gone

Quote:
Winamp playlist -> List button -> New Add button -> Add dir -> browse to folder -> okay This will recreate your playlist and all the links should work again. If the MP3's are no longer on your HD, then like sawg says, you're screwed. If this is the case, you should've backed up all your MP3's or moved them to a safe place before uninstalling Napster, especially if the MP3's were stored in the Napster Library dir. :( I'm praying for you that it's the former not the latter. Something else I'd like clarification of: Could you please post here the exact error message. The main reason being that when Winamp comes across dead links in the playlist, it normally just skips over them without producing any error message. So, I'm possibly thinking that it could be something else we've not even thought of yet. |
Yes all the music is still there and all backed up.
The error message is coming up when when I open my music dir it says c:\programfiles\napster refers to unavailable location then it tries to find the missing shortcut I believe in My Files which is there but does'nt seem to remedy the problem probably beause the napster link is gone hopefully this clarifies the situation and thank you for the help so far it's been much appreciated:cool: |
Okaaaaaaaaaay . . . I think we're getting a bit warmer now.
So, this error is popping up when you use the Add/Open Files dialog in Winamp, yes? The default dir, or the one you're trying to open is "C:\My Music", yes? If "yes" to both these, goto: My Computer -> C: Drive -> "My Music" dir Hi-lite the shortcut to the "C:\Program Files\Napster" dir (this will probably be called "Napster" and will look just like any other folder icon, but in reality it is just a shortcut) Hit "Delete" You can confirm whether or not this is a shortcut by "rt click -> properties". If there is a Shortcut tab in the properties box, and in the General tab it says the filename is Napster.LNK, then this confirms it is a shortcut. All .LNK files are shortcuts. Please tell me this fixes the problem ?!?! |
 Don't know what I did but I'll just reinstall winamp and see what happens. Like I said it's more of an annoyance then anything.
Thank you all for the help it's been much appreciated, keep rocking in the free world |
