new skin - <unknown>
 

okay fellow forum type ppl :), this thread is now the new home of a future venture between me and lucid dream, arguably two of the good designers on this forum :)
(please do not take offence to this, almost everyone here are great skinners in there own right, im going of "origionality here")
we havent decided yet upon the format or stylisation of the skin, but i can tell you this.., its going to blow your mind ^_^
im not going to give away too many details at this early stage, and as lucid has other devotions to cope with at present, dont expect a skin to be spin from the very silk of the net within a few hours :P, though i will post some concept work here shortly :), i ask however, 2 things

1), that everyone forgets the arguments happening in this forum over the past week (yes, i was a part of it too), and be constructively critical :), and..
2), everyone leave a suggestion of something they would like seen on winamp (no matter how far fetch, but nothing silly like "ice cream maker")

Jeez i wish Winamp 2.xx wasnt so bitmap particular.. meaning where every bit of detail has to fit snuggle against each other in a particlar position to perform their job ( no WA3 mentioned ).

Well this is a rough sketch ( left hand side of the main.bmp ) of what im doing after my 'riveted' skin is complete.. it looks wire looking now and only done in a hour or so.. so no real comments required ok. ( Attached below )

OK what should Lucid and Raydreams next skin be like?? stuffed if I know.. maybe do a WA3 skin, no RESTRICTIONS.. :::

Its pretty hard to come up with something "NEW" nowadays for WA2.. even if you sat down, draw a sketch and plan it out, its probably been done before.. just different a little.

Well I'll keep an eye on the main post to see what moves have been made.

I only say this because of what I've seen in some "Windows Media Player 7" skins.. f*ck, some of them are outstanding.. and are getting better in an unreal way.

Its pretty easy to come up with a half decent project to work on i must say, especially if ur talented at some art/design.. but thats only half of it, the other half is programming or scripting ( whichever ), and I lack in a bit of that at the moment. :(

Unless you ( both of you if ur doing a joint project ) know all about the scripting, your only limited in what you can do.. and thats why WA3 will be lacking in skin flavour for a while.

I still personally like to design WA2 skins for its simplicity.. yet cope with the irritations that are involved aswell.

Maybe something compact, that is menu expandable ( by choice ) with a few button clicks will work ok for ur new project ( maybe initially hard to accomplish , call it a beta ), because compact is where the future is heading my friend :::

i know pretty much everything now in xml that i will need to develop a wa3 skin, the joint project between myself and lucid has not yet been decided upon, wa2 or wa3, whichever we decide to create, you can bet it will be something not seen before in wa2

gold/white/pink

Do a WA2 skin please coz my system's too slow for WA3. Any menial jobs (like text.bmP) you wanna give me, I'd do them.

I think grey and yellow would be an interesting choice. Perhaps not so easy on computer as in real life. And curvey. Perhaps with little cartoon characters. :D

Hmm... What if Lucid, raydream, Kinwashi and fyre would collaberate for a skin in wa3... waaa :)

Oh yeah, and I don't think that he should make a Wa2 skin just 'cause YOUR box is too slow.. :) It wouldn't be very democratic if he'll do so just for you... :)

Yeah it would. Everybody who can run WA3 must be able to run WA2 also. :D

just wondering, is there any way to incorporate 'flash' into wa3 skins, mainly for rollover effects on buttons? being xml, is it possible do you think ..

just a suggestion...unless the shape is totally original, I wouldn't use metal texture because I kinda feel it's starting to be overused, although in your fe2o3 it is metalic, but the shpe is very original, like I said...
I would kinda like to see a colorful, stylish skin
and I, too would like it to be for wa2

SupeyDupey, I don't see the need of flash for this since both rollovers and animation are acheivable in Winamp 3.

As for a general "what is required to be a good skin", I dont care how simple or how fancy it gets, as long as its not a skinner.exe (LOL right, as if Raydream or Lucid would do a skinner skin), and as long as it is user friendly (meaning I'm not required to be an advanced winamp user and/or require a manual to find the playlist/posbar/vol/bal/etc).

Final thought: I like *n Sync :D

how bout some grapes, purple ones :D or even better, raspberries. the blackish kind that grow in the suburbs and stain your fingers purple when you squeeze them. No watermelon, seems too tacky, Loved the Orange skin though. Was juicy :D

*sigh* My mum speaks Mandarin, and a few other Chinese dialects that I can't remember the names of, and English. But I grew up with English. Ever since I've regretted it, I wanna learn all those languages now, but it's much harder when you're not a baby.

Yes, i can write, speak and read japanese, and mandarin too (which is good since my girlfriend is chinese)

dont get me wrong though, im by no means excellent at either japanese nor mandarin, .. to put it one way, i went into a sushi place to test out my mad dialekt killz, ordered the spice bento box.. well, tried to, i got thrown out for saying Kutabare.. if anyone on this board is japanese, please dont be offended, lol
