question...

I'm making a skin right now and I have a question about the file text.bmp. Now there are 4 different text styles you need to create and I was wondering where each one goes? In the base skin the top is black w/green text, the second is blue w/green, the third black w/green again, then bottom blue w/green again. What is the difference between the two black ones and the two blue ones? and which text in the final skin does each one correspond to?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
Lindsay

I just crop the last three. It works fine without them, but i guess it would be interesting to find out what theyre for.

Old legacy bitmap, used circa winamp 2.0ish , used to be for the playlist active/inactive fonts before the use of the pledit.txt file.

Not used for anything now.

while we're asking questions, i have a few.

Like: what the hell is the microamp? I need to know so i can skin it. Its embarassing cause everyone else seems to know.

And... How do I add a picture to the bottom of my posts (permenently). i can put text easy, but thats it.

MikroAMP home page.

Images sigs.

Host the image off your own web space, ensuring your not using some cheap ass freebie thing that dosn't allow outside linking.
Use the [IMG] tags within your sig to encase the URL of your hosted image. If you don't have web space tuff, you can ask around in here, im sure someone will host it for you, I would, but I pay big $$$ for my domain these days, so I aint giving away server space no more :p

More info here on the use of image tags.

We try:D

*wishing we could still use a bitmap font in the playlist*

I might try to make a font of my bitmap to include. How to make a font? :D

I'll go off to 1001fonts.com and sound like a newbie :D

2 problems with that skinme!

1. I've downloaded about 15 different font creators and they all either suck, are hard to use, not user friendly at all, or I'm a moron :D
2. If the other person doesn't have the font, it will default to something else anyway :\ so you'll be the only one who can see what you intended.

I wish the text was still used for the play list too :(

skinme! 10th November 2001 16:54

You're right about the first problem. They all SUCK. Got to find a nice easy one.

But I had thought about problem 2. I was gonna supply skin with Arial default and instructions in readme.txt for installing font and editing pledit.txt. :D

Forevever 10th November 2001 19:33

that'll work, assuming the downloader isn't a retard

do you have any idea how many people email me wanting to know why I did a spongebob skin with no spongebob?
it usually takes 3 or 5 emails to get them to understand how to change their options to show skinned cursors.
some people are just way too computer illiterate. You have to wonder why they bought it in the first place and how they even managed to navigate their way to Winamp, much less figure out how to sign on... geesh!

Nini 10th November 2001 21:01

Good fonts are really hard to make...you've to consider a lot of "theory"
hmmm...arial is booring ;)
BTW I wonder if there are ppl who installed the font which is included in Tori gemmed :D

jasonl 11th November 2001 03:55

I thought you could just put the font in the zip (wsz-whatever) file and winamp would pick it up. It worked for this diablo skin I downloaded. This means you shoulnd have to worry about it defaulting back to the arial font or whatever.

Forevever 11th November 2001 13:40

Mr J? is that true? Won't do me no good to try it, I don't have any fonts laying around that aren't installed on my hard drive.

Are you sure it didn't just default to the closest match? Thats what happens. Like say I used "Lucida Caligraphy", you don't have that font. So therefore it would default to Vivaldi (which I believe is a standard windows font) since they're both cursive type fonts.

Mr Jones 11th November 2001 14:55

if you pick some whacked out font that only you have on your hard drive, and name it in the pledit.txt file, only someone with that font installed is gonna see it, windows will try match it to something similar, but usualy just stick with plain old windows similar.

You could include the font, but who the fuck would be bothered to change the wsz, extract the font, install the font, just for a skin that will probs get deleted by the end of the day.

Install custom fonts is possiable in WA3 however.....

Yus I did, havent had much time to act on it yet, but It's been noted and will be dealt with in due course :)

Lucid DM 11th November 2001 18:26

Yay! Cheers!

Sort of back on topic:

I made a font once ages ago. I think it was called something like TSoom. I used it a couple times, but then didn't like it anymore. I can't remember which program I used. But I just drew the letters in PSP and imported them in. It did all the vectorising itself. So there are good font makers out there, you just have to look kinda hard.
