I downloaded a couple of the songs, and although I know nothing of LOTR, I found the music quite pleasing.

There is a song called Ballard of Bilbo Baggins. Is this where you get your nic from?

Listening to the soundtrack of "Le Fabuleaux Destin d'Amelie Poulain" at the moment - excellent score. Haven't gotten round to getting the "lord of the Rings" soundtrack - is it any good??

7icha7d 21st November 2001 14:19

I'm not usually a big fan of buying soundtracks, though they only one I did buy, the Mission Impossible 2 soundtrack, is great. Metallica, Diffuser, Tinfed, Buckcherry, the Foo Fighters and Brian May... brilliant CD.

jns 21st November 2001 14:20

I want the South Park soundtrack. :D

a-arse 21st November 2001 15:00

Bilbo Baggins was the hobbit in The Hobbit, his son is the main character of Lord of the Rings and that track's great! :)

Billbo! Billbo! Bilbo Baggins, he's only three feet tall
Billbo! Billbo! Bilbo Baggins, the bravest little hobbit of 'em all!

Fantastico!

Bilbo Baggins 21st November 2001 20:32

Frodo was actually Bilbos nephew. Bilbo only adopted him as an heir. Bilbo lived as a bachelor all his life.

The soundtrack is orchestral with a little choiral music swirling in the background. Most of the songs are very haunting, and they invoke a sense of actually being there, with the story. Enya is also writing music for the trilogy, and there are two of her tracks on the album.
Some of the tracks, such as Concerning Hobbits, are Irish folk music, and make you wanna dance :)

Track Listing:

1) The Prophecy
2) Concerning Hobbits
3) The Shadow of the Past
4) The Treason of Isengard.
5) The Black Rider
6) At The Sign of The Prancing Pony
7) A Knife In The Dark
8) Flight to the Ford
9) Many Meetings
10) The Council Of Elrond
11) The Ring Goes South
12) A Journey In The Dark
13) The Bridge Of Khazad Dum
14) Lothlorien
15) The Great River
16) Amon Hen
17) The Breaking Of The Fellowship
18) May It Be

BullGawD 21st November 2001 21:18

well, gee, wonder where they got their track names? :p

rm' 21st November 2001 22:11

This sounds like a soundtrack that I'll have to buy. Other great soundtracks, you ask? Hannibal and James Bond: Tommorow Never Dies.

papadoc 21st November 2001 22:13

I too have decided to go out and buy the soundtract.
Then I can tell people in the store I talk to Bilbo Baggins all the time.
:D

Somebody 21st November 2001 22:32

damn, I'm listening to the first track, what an amazing and moving piece.

oh my god, I haven't shed tears to music in A WHILE*. (yes I started weeping because it is great)
this soundtrack is marvelous!

*"A WHILE" being in the past month or so

ujay 22nd November 2001 00:35

Only managed to find the last track so far. Sorry, sounds like every other Enya song I've ever heard. Great if you like Enya I suppose. Will reserve judgement until I've found more.

Ducks head quickly knowing all the Enya fans there are on the board.

the last track is the only track with that lady, could have been better without her, leaving the entire soundtrack orchestrated :P

Xerxes 22nd November 2001 00:54

With movie soundtracks, I think its fairer to the composer to watch the movie before buying it. Sound tracks are intended to have the visual component ... like an opera.

This one sounds interesting, but If i hear lots of pan flutes and sparkly bell sounds in every track i'm gonna gag...

ripe 22nd November 2001 15:49

I've never shed tears to music, though I came pretty close the first time I sat and properly listened to Anna Begins by Counting Crows. Beautiful song *sob*/

I just saw on TV that Burger King has the LOTR light up glasses (cups) for 1.99. Just thought I would let all you LOTR lovers know!

Have a good night.
