This can be a wide ragne of things. First off open your case and check ALL connections. If the fan doesn't react when toy attempt to turn it it it is a good chance that it is your power supply

Kinda related to power supplies:
I once stuck a screwdriver into my computer PSU when it was switched on. There was a big blue flash, a bang and that was the end of that PSU. :D

The reason I did it was the fan on that PSU was terrible and got so bad it needed 'kick starting' with to get it moving. So I used to keep a screwdriver or pen handy to do it with. Trouble was this time I obviously put the screwdriver a *bit* too far in.

Also related:
A few years later a friend did something even more stupid. He was having a problem with his computer booting. Although the power was on he wasn't very computer literate and desperately trying everything, when he came accross a switch on his PSU that had "115" written on it in one position and "240" in another. So he flicked it. Being on a 240V supply (in Portugal) changing it to 115V didn't really help, and yes, his PSU also exploded.

Oh how we laugh now...

If you weren't touching the case when you did that, you shorted out your computer with static electricity. You have to ground yourself when you touch a computer or that happens.

that once happened to my computer
the only problem is: i tried to turn it on by pushing hte button a few more times
suddenly there was a bang and smoke started pouring out the back
fun fun fun

That only really matters when you have it turned off. It won't do anything otherwise.

Hue, it's called a smoke test :)

Your body doesn'tb likely have enough static electricity to short out a PSU. That takes a lot of electricity.

Of course, memory can sizzle like Pop Rocks if you even think about touching it.
