Winamp won't play music
Help
I have downloaded about five songs of the net, and also ripped a few songs off a CD I have, and only 2 out of all of those songs play through Winamp. But the strange thing is, I also have RealJukebox (which I use to rip songs) and ALL of those songs play through RJbox WHY??? I go into Winamp, load all my songs, double click the first song, it skips to the next one and keeps skipping (making a few short, high-pitched squeaking noises at a few different songs) until it gets to one of the songs that play (Dammit, Blink 182). I litsen to that, then it keeps skipping my songs until it gets to the other one (Pistol Grip Pump, Rage Against the Machine). Can someone PLEASE help me with this, coz its pissing me off shitloads.   |
have you downloaded any plug ins.if like me you got that shitty jap one that has now been taken off winamp.com then you have to reinstall winamp.other than that i dont know.does it rescognise that there is music in the songs.ie does it show a time for hoe long they are.
|
Yeah, I got a plugin; its called 'MAAD plugin' or something like that. Supposed to be real good quality sound. All the songs show times like how long they are, but still only 2 play. Still in the meantime, I can use RJbox. But I REALLY want to use Winamp.
Thanx dude |
wat winamp r u using.try scanin the inamp folder with a virus scanner to c if anything is wrong with the files.other than that it could be many other things.

What format are these songs?
MP3 or some other RealPlayer format? (eg. RA, RM, RAM, RMJ, RMX) You will need to install a RealPlayer input plugin for Winamp to support these RealNetworks formats. Choose between Tara, Hellsoft Realized, or Innover's plugins. Links here and here If you used the "secure" option in RealJukebox options when ripping your CD trax, then they will've been encoded with the RMX extension and there's a possibility that they can only be played in RealPlayer, although the Tara plugin professes to support (some) RMX files ?!?! In future, I recommend you use a proper decent ripper such as CDex or EAC [edit] just seen your posts above.... I see you're using a 3rd party MP3 input replacement (MAD) Try using the default Nullsoft decoder (in_mp3.dll), it's much much better ;) Alas, we don't offer support for 3rd party plugins here. If you're having problems playing MP3's, you'll need to contact the author of said plugin instead. [/edit] |
remove MAD and see if that helps (delete in_mad.dll (or something like that) file from winamp/plugins)

i hate to piss on the massive winamp bonfire but i would chose an external ripper.go out to the shops and buy mp3 e-jay.
winamp is great for playing diffrent types of music but u need a decent encoder. i would choose tara cos i have it and its well good. |
I'm using winamp v2.77, and the filename extensions are all mp3. My problem still happened when I didn't have MAD (that was the reason I got it). I am still pissed.
Thanx anyways dudes |
Quote:
CDex and EAC rippers are standalone EXE's . . . nothing to do with Winamp. Both use the external LAME Encoder (or any other one of your choice that's installed on your system, eg. Fraunhofer, Blade, Vorbis, etc etc) ...and Input plugins are decoders, not encoders. Though you're right about Tara, it's a top input plugin (supports RA, RM, RAM, RMJ, RMX, SMI, SMIL, AVI, MPG, and more) ___________________________________________________________ Winamp has no problem playing any proper uncorrupt MP3's, as long as they are MP3's to start with. If Nullsoft's in_mp3.dll decoder can't play them, then I doubt that any other 3rd-party mp3 plugin will either :( To me, it sounds like a RealPlayer/Jukebox issue. As far as I know, RealJukebox doesn't encode to MP3 format. It uses RMJ or RMX . . . and basically they're both as equally crap! Then again, I uninstalled RJB p.o.s. ages ago . . . so maybe they've finally allowed MP3 encoding in the newer versions . . . lord knows ?!?! Anyway . . . whatever  by 'eck . . . where's NeoRenegade when ya need him. He'd give it to you straight! :p :D LOL |
Yeah, RJB does have mp3 encoding when u rip ur CD, but I don't think i chose that. I just renamed it to .mp3 from .rmx, which has worked for me in an earlier version of winamp (about v2.64). I think it probably fucked up the ripping bit, so I might just do it again. I just found this out, but the two songs that only play, are the only two that I downloaded from the net. The rest were all ripped.
And u know that this is pissing me off.   Anway, thanx dudes |
Yup, I knew it! ;)
You could try installing the Tara plugin, then rename them all back to RMX (or RMJ), and ya never know, Winamp might be able to play them then. Otherwise, you'll have to reencode them as MP3. Try CDex. It's small, free, and easy to use. btw, I felt exactly the same way about RJB, it used to piss me off no end, that's why I got rid! :D I've been using CDex and Winamp ever since :) RealPlayer/JukeBox suxx big time. The only sad thing is you've got to keep RealPlayer installed for the Tara plugin to work in Winamp . . . well . . . there's always workarounds |
Well, I tried renaming the files back to .rmx and using the Tara plugin, but it didn't work. Maybe RJB is just to fucking shit to rip my CD's right. I got CDex and it works well and all of the songs play well with Winamp.
So a big thanx to Rat77boy, Peter, and especially DJ Egg for all of your help. So c-ya dudes, and thanks |
