So what's the deal...?

There's a lot of talk at the moment about Winamp 3 and what's going on with it right now. But in what way(s) will WA3 be different from 2? What's going to be better?

drjavus 3rd December 2001 18:34

Too many to list!

Lol, i truely suggest you just dwl a beta ;)

For me the main change is the ability to skin it, being allowed to move the buttons where every the skinner wants, as well as interactive skins :D

Cool... I might. I don't usually use beta's due to their bugginess, and for me, winamp 2.73 is working nicely, so I'm looking along the lines of "If it aint broke, don't fix it". :)

Gonzotek 3rd December 2001 22:53

That's always a good philosophy, but you can have your cake and eat too, in this case. Winamp3 installs (by default) to a seperate directory from Winamp2, and doesn't yet associate files with itself. So you would be safe downloading, installing, and playing with it. Keep in mind (as I'm sure you will), that being a beta, things will be broke sometimes, and features in 2 won't be there sometimes. Nevertheless, there's still a lot of fun stuff to play with and you shouldn't have TOO many problems with beta 2.

Thats what i love about the nullsoft guys...
as soon as they reach zen-like perfection (as in wa 2.78) they redefine perfection in winamp3.

james 4th December 2001 17:27

Ommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

(^ Zen meditation, in case you didn't realise :p )

Winamp 2.78 Needs X, Y, Z!
Oh, hang on, that'd be Winamp 3! :D

Seriously, how long is Justin (and PP) planning to continue tweaking 2.xx? Anyone have any idea? I, personally, think they will stop as soon as 3.00 arrives (but then again, they might not ;)) I suppose if bugs appear, they might get fixed in spare time. Or maybe there'll be a WA2 Final Edition!

Who Knows!!

Merlin 5th December 2001 20:31

Since 2.7whateveritisnow is good for what i need it for right now, I think I'll wait 'til 3.0 is formally released. Would be like opening a christmas present on the 4th of December otherwise. ;)

thepyr0x 7th December 2001 02:17

That it would, but I dont think WA3 final will be out till way after December 25th, so ya might as well LoL.

KJ 8th December 2001 17:50

In fact, I think WA3 Final won't be released until 25th December 2076 (more or less) :D

PD: It'll be worth

CraigF 8th December 2001 23:54

well, we may not get final at xmas. but beta 3 would be nice.
