New virus alert - W32.Goner.A@mm - you can get it using mirc, irc, and via email
I just got the virus about 15 times. Thank goodness I use Norton and it was updated so I did not get the virus <worm>.
Here is the link to read about it. http://www.symantec.com/press/2001/n011204.html Be careful all! ~ Missy |
Thanks Missy
I keep on been hit by the QAZ.WORM has anyone else had the o problem or is it my crappy computer :) Like what Missy said keep your Virus checker runinhg and up to date with the latest updates Thank you |
You can't get it through mIRC. It creates a backdoor to your computer through mIRC if mIRC is installed, though. :) The backdoor allows other people to access you computer and use it in DoS attacks. mIRC can't get infected unless you get the virus some other way.
I don't know if this is common knowledge or not, but you should never, ever run a screensaver unless you virus scan it. The difference between an EXE and an SCR is negligible. Just so you know. :) |
thanks :) you deserve the MOTM
|
thanks for the heads up missy,
just yesterday i got a kakWorm... and am very paranoid about getting others; the damn thing has been doing some funny things to my system- like making wallpaper loading on start-up slower, making the text boxes below the icons turn black, created a duplicate (main) account in my email... god knows what else it did |
yea, i think i already got one w32.goner email. really idiotic.
(well, getting another useless mailbomb annoys me much more than risk of being infected) |
hmm i never get anytang cool sent to me, i'm such a loser
oh and thank you microsoft outlook express for providing yet another hole for worms to crawl through. :D |
let's see, I have caught ...:
SirCAM 25 times (and still kicking it's ugly head) Nimda 10 times I once had the source for Code Red one and two ... Lost it Normally, I would get the latest virus by the time it made the news ... but I never got this one. Alright I guess. -Duane |
Thanks for the heads up, Missy :)
/me updates his viri definitions... |
Lately my old company has adopted a hardline approach that's proven to be very effective.
The company has purchased a corporate licence for Norton Antivirus, so everyone can install it at no cost to his own department, and it takes no effort at the user's end to update because virus definition deployment is automated. But some jerks would still refuse to install it. Now whenever a PC is found to be sending out viruses, the network admins would isolate that PC's network MAC address, and configure the routers to refuse traffic to and from that PC. This effectively shuts down that PC's network connectivity. The user will be stranded with no network access until he disinfects the PC and installs NAV, or somebody from the network team does that for him. |
Wow, that's secure.
My friend was telling me about how it is possible to bind a virus with a jpg file and then send it to me. He said that if i opened it, I would get infected. Is this true? If so, that would make me very parinoid. |
no
JPGs are only images files
