Library Suggestion
Great to see that you've added a media libabry; makes life simple. A couple of feedback points.
1. "Sorted by Album" "Sorted by Artist" etc. Shouldn't this read "Grouped by ..." then allow sorting by title, album etc within each group, especially by clicking on the header row. 2. Can you add a random function. At the end of the current playlist the repeat function could either repeat the current playlist as it does now or select random songs from the entire media library. If a song is enqueued it will play as the next song and then return to playing randomly. 3. Password protect the media library. I use winamp as a jukebox via a notebook plugged into a hifi. One of the annoying things at a large parties is that everybody plays with the pc and usually wipes the playlist or something else. I would love to be able to lock the library on full screen so that everybody can select songs but nothing else. Cheers toQDuj |
a pretty nice idea. but you could always just lock your pc and get people to make requests :)
|
not quite a good enough idea
Yes that was a good idea, and yes locking the pc is also a good idea, but what if he can't lock his pc, and also people will prefer it if they can just change the song themselves, also people asking then him going to unlock the pc all the time will get annoying, so his 1st idea is a much more practical one,
bratch. |
yeah, but he could always put paper near the pc so that people can make requests. then he can just go back, unlock (all pc's are lockable by some method or another), and queue up.
:D |
or....
saving the playlist would work too. just have to check it every so often to see that it still working right and backing it up so the queued songs are still there.
also, make sure that you explain to everyone how to actully use a computer before letting them do their own thing! |
i still prefer the idea of locking them out :D
|
yes
i wouldnt' want anyone touching my puter but then again if you are at a party, you dont' want to have to sit at your computer taking requests and stuff better off doing up a playlist before the party or disco/dance/whatever and then locking computer when you get there and then it's just too bad for them who want a song should've done it before we started... |
or don't have music and just sing to the guests!

I've seen a few plugins to control the playlist via a webpage..
Queue up songs based on popularity/request and the like... Usually used if you're running a Shoutcast server. |
he wants to have a party - not set up a server - and also - why hasn't he come back yet?
|
Maybe he didn't want an 'argument' . . . only to make a few suggestions . . . just possibly?

It has been great to even get a response but to clarify my original points.
The password option is so that I do NOT have to spend my entire night sitting at or running to and from the pc. Also, I have no intention of setting this up when I feel that the pc might be in danger (especially of having a beer poured into it, inadvertently or otherwise) and find that most computer illiterates do not want to touch the thing for fear of breaking it anyway. But they are happy if you can show them that the direction keys move the cursor (changes the selection) and the enter key enqueues the song they want to hear, and that's it. No changing the volume or anything else via the pc, just select songs. My point about the random selction from anywhere within the library seems to have been ignored but it is this that I find most useful (I have only found it once before). As with a real jukebox a random song is selected automatically once the paid for selections (or in this case the current playlist) has finished playing and it is this most of all that I would like to see recreated in WA3. If you want to continuously listen to the current playlist then that's OK but sometimes I would prefer WA3 to just select anything without me having to think or do anything about it. Cheers |
If you want to "Lock the screen" put it on always on top, and make the playlist the size of the entire screen.
Also if you hold down alt, and select a song while on random, that will be the next to queue up. As you select other songs, it puts those on the playlist as next. When all selected songs have finished, it goes back to playing randomly. |
