Shoutcast thru a Linksys Cable/DSL Router

I'm trying to setup a Shoutcast server on Windows ME behind a Linksys DSL Router. I've got the Shoutcast server working fine on the network, so those problems have been resolved. But no one can connect to it from the Internet.

I did a search in the forums on "linksys" and found a number of topics that gave me some clues, but none of them provided enough detail to work.

My understanding is that using Linksys' handy web admin interface, I go to "Advanced > Forwarding" then enter the port range of 8000-8001 (which is what I'm using) and the LAN IP address of the computer running the Shoutcast server. If I understand it correctly, users should then be able to connect to my Shoutcast server by entering my WAN IP address (which I can find through the Linksys "Status" tab). Because my ISP dynamically assigns this, it changes periodically, but it would look something like "http://4.33.175.134:8000"

I also tried setting up the machine running the Shoutcast server as a DMZ host, with no luck.

Can anyone running this configuration provide the specific settings necessary? If someone will help me debug this, I'll post the information on my web site (with screen shots!) and we can all benefit (or at least, all of us with Linksys routers).

Grumpy,

I have this same setup (which works), and you seem to be doing the right thing.

I'll take a look at it over the weekend and let you know if anything is different than yours.

Ah-ha! Mystery Solved!

Yes, I WAS doing everything correctly!!! :D

It turns out that the problem was on the OTHER end. My friend who was testing was behind a firewall that was blocking port 8000. I reconfigured things on my end to use ports 80 & 81 and that fixed the problem (for them).

I'm having identical problems. Disabled DHCP, forwarded to my IP, and yet STILL it does not work. My friends who tried all get a timed out message and in the shoutcast server GUI, I get the message

<12/22/01@03:12:04> [dest: 205.XXX.XXX.XX] starting stream (UID: 0)[L: 1]{A: WinampMPEG/2.7}
<12/22/01@03:13:06> [dest: 205.XXX.XXX.XX] connection closed (62 seconds) (UID: 0)[L: 0]{Bytes: 8192}

I guess this means they're not connecting at all? I'm behind a Linksys router as well, NAT and all. It's driving me crazy, trying to figure out what's wrong.
