cursors

i'm making animated cursors for my new skin in psp7 and animation shop. is there a way i can load a .cur file into psp so that i can use it as the basis for my animated cursor?

your best bet is to do a screen shot of the cursor - paste it as a new image in PSP

use that as your base - and make adjustments/animations using new layers which will eventually become frames

at that point - you can run animation shop and either
a) paste each frame individually into a new animation; or,
b) save the file as a .psp - use the "animation wizard" to open it with animation shop - and it will automatically use each layer as a new frame

you can save it as a *.ani file with animation shop, then rename it to cur

good luck :)

how do i take a screen shot of the cursor? my screenshots never show the cursor

In PSP, go to File > Import > Screen Capture > Setup and check "Include cursor".

you can also open your windows explorer - navigate to where the cursor itself is - right click and select "view" then "large icons"

hit your "print screen (prt scr/sysreq)" button - then paste as a new image in psp - cropping or cutting the cursor icon out of the image

remember - cursors and icons are generally 32x32 pixels.

you could also try to get a trail version of MICROANGELO. or an other program you can make cursors with

skinme! 31st December 2001 12:08

Yeah, Microangelo is the way to go.

Forevever 31st December 2001 17:33

actually - as an experienced Microangelo & PSP/Animation shop user, I'd have to say that making animated cursors is a heck of a lot easier if you do it in PSP then transfer over to animation shop

I created my cursors in PSP from day one anyway - and copying them over to Microangelo one frame at a time is not as easy if you're trying to use 256 colors in the file to save space

whereas, saving the file and opening it with animation shop does all the work for you

in defense of Microangelo - there is no better icon creator

Hey, in Anim Shop, can I change the hot spot of the cursor? I remember having trouble here in Double Helix.

Forevever 1st January 2002 02:32

you know something - I could not find a way in animation shop to change the hot spot - I opened the *.ani file with micro to change it

I forgot about that, my fault.

PeaceMaker 1st January 2002 03:12

I usually use Icon Edit Pro 7 when making cursor's, esp animated ones. Its a little tricky sometimes, but after a while it gets easier.

Nini 1st January 2002 18:01

hot spot is only for *.ani's and *.cur's as far as I kow, so you have to do it with Microangelo.

On a related question...

How can I get winamp to recognize animated cursors? It seems I have to get the .ani to a .cur, but I have no idea how. Do I need a special program or somethin'?

Mr Jones 1st January 2002 18:24

Windows Explorer, Right click on cursor you wish to rename, slide down to rename, change cursor name from MYCURSOR.ani to MYCURSOR.cur

File extensions not showing?

Windows Folder Options -> View tab:
Uncheck: hide extensions for known file types.

Easy as that, special program pffft;)

Omnitarian 1st January 2002 18:41

Heheh. The uncheck box worked. Thankies!

skinme! 1st January 2002 19:42

Naja. Microangelo supports hotspots. Ha. I beat you. *does a lil' dance* :D Only joking Forever, I suppose Animation Shop and then Microangelo and then Windows Explorer's the way to go.
