I've missed the snow since I lived in London. This place seems to have a micro climate all of it's own, almost like there's some bubble over everything and all the weather goes around and over.
It's usually a few degrees warmer than the surrounding countryside, which I don't mind in the least, but we never get a decent snowfall either, which I miss.
When I lived in Dorset we got snowed in for a few days every winter it seemed, days off school and great excitement.
Here we get a few flakes that dissapear into grey slush before you know it, even though the rest of the country can be cover in a couple of feet.

Ever noticed how quiet everything is after it's snowed.

Yeah and once it hailed here when I was in Kindergarten during recess... lots of screaming children :)

mark e 3rd January 2002 15:07

Snow in Estonia... Normal...
We have got it here very much now... But tommorow it's going to be 0 degrees... Bad...  :(

binary hero 3rd January 2002 15:21

it hasn't snowed in my part of Worcestershire yet :( but it was -11 deg C the other night. Cold is OK if there is snow, but I would kill to be in southern California at the moment.

Matt 3rd January 2002 15:37

Snow today and the last few days. It's also bitter cold here.

thats because tiny air pockets in snow trap minor sounds...any major sounds are easy to be heard, but most of the things you hear arent that loud.

PabUK 3rd January 2002 15:59

We had snow here in sunny (?) Manchester a few days ago. And now is still around but as very dangerous (slippery) ice. There was a also some on xmas day, but only for a few minutes.

james 3rd January 2002 16:07

There was no snow in Worcester UK at all, I was seriously gutted! But that could be a good thing as my dad stuffed his Discovery backwards into a hedge in Stoke . . . honestly a little bit of snow and the UK goes to pieces!!!

Psycho Puppet 3rd January 2002 16:46

We had extremely cold rain yesterday here in Orlando, FL. Yay =p

Thats right. It's like there's a background hush falls over everything, I love it.
Perhaps that's why it reminds me of being in a theatre.

there's been next to no snow in toronto, damnit
all the surrounding areas get it EXCEPT my city, and the place where i ski

then again, i hope it doesn't snow in toronto until AFTER January 17th, since that's when my driving test is and i DON'T want it to be snowing during that, i've already failed twice

s1138 3rd January 2002 19:05

well, here it is, alittle after 3PM and most the snow is gone.
only little patches left on the ground. and water dripping out of every tree, and off all the roofs.

Bop 3rd January 2002 19:26

it actually only started snowing up here about a week ago (upstate new york), normally it begins around october.... we've had a looooooooooooooooooong fall; now it's coming down pretty regularly, but not enough so that it really accumulates- f*#king cold though!

sgtfuzzbubble011 4th January 2002 01:10

I can't remember the last time it snowed here*. It's been years. Today has been the coldest day so far this winter, though. The high temperature for today was like, 40ºf or so.

It is really cold. Especially if you forgot to bring your coat to lunch and sat outside for 40 minutes. I'm gonna get sick.:) Hopefully that storm will come our way and we'll finally get some snow. Snow makes up for the cold.

I think that its like that in NYC too, but I'm not sure. The heat generated by the mass of people is enough to melt snow. Also the heat from the buildings, pipes etc. keeps everything warm. Still, I like the prospect of snow nearby, unlike here where it practically never snows except for a few lucky occassions and on top of mount diablo.

n_ick2000 4th January 2002 04:53

Where I live (near seattle), it only snows about once or twice a year. We just get a lot of rain.

bloozbone 4th January 2002 05:04

Santa Cruz is on the beach just south of San Francisco, and we never get snow here (ask Colldawg21 --- he's in Oakland about 45 minutes from here).

I used to live in Lake Arrowhead about 3 years ago (east of Los Angeles in the San Bernardino Mountains) and we averaged over 4 feet of snow every winter. GREAT SKIING there (I miss that)...:(

s1138 4th January 2002 12:38

w00t!
well, here it is today. no snow, and yet, no school:D

missyob 4th January 2002 16:01

We ended up with 6 inches of snow here in Atlanta. It is very ironic because I was up in NY for 2 weeks ~ No snow there ~ I come home, and there is snow everywhere! It is not right, I moved south to get away from all the yucky weather ~ I think it followed me.

It is starting to melt now.

s1138, you probably wont have school on Monday either. The weather forcast is calling for a bad ice storm on Sunday. It is good for you because you get more time off from school :D .

s1138 4th January 2002 17:33

really, thats great missy:)

today is beautiful. not to cold, the sun is bright. it was like this last year when we had a snow day too.

i love snow days:D

btw, wb missy

piesupreme 4th January 2002 18:45

missing school is good, but ice storms are BAD
does anyone here remember that big one in ottawa a few years ago?
my aunt was stuck in the middle of it
no power for months, no heat either
it was scary, she showed me pictures she took of her area during it
trees down (on cars, blocking vital roads)

s, if you do have an ice storm, hope it isnt nearly as bad as taht one

missyob 4th January 2002 19:53

thanks s1138 hon :)

We had a bad ice storm here 2 years ago. We had no power for 3.5 days. It was really bad. It got so cold in the house. We were turning on the hot water in the shower just to get heat from the steam. One night we slept in the car because it just got too cold in the house. It was nasty. Ice storms are not fun ~ snow days from school are though!

Have a wonderful day all, it is nice to be home!

Bilbo Baggins 4th January 2002 20:19

We had snow last week, and it has not melted. It has now been compressed into a sheet of ice 1 inch thick. Great fun for walking!

If you owned ice skates that would be really cool. It would also save you time. Instead of walking, you could just ice skate everywhere.

im my experience, if the weatherman down here says it may snow tomorrow, it probably is going to be sunny.

Nofx Guy 5th January 2002 06:12

HAHHAA you all make me laugh!! Your all talking about a few inches of snow, well i have a few feet, between 4-5!! And its not from a storm, it gets like that here all the time!! We have had snow since the end of october. And temperature wise its been about -20 to -35 degree's celcius everyday! Now take that everyone!! hehe. But i guess i have so much snow because i live in northern Canada, eh. Anyways here's a pic of what i do in the winter.
http://xpunk.mygecko.net/me-snow.jpg

Thats me on my new snomobile i jsut bought (a Polaris 550 supersport, 2001, for any of you who know anything about snowmobiles) it cost me 6612 canadian, and i jsut finally finished paying it off. Im on the Saskatchewan river, and the brown little building is my Ice Shack, where me and my buds and family go ice fishing. Anyways that is what i do all winter when im not on here chattin to you all!

missyob 5th January 2002 15:16

Nice snowmobile Nofx! When I was growing up we used to go snowmobiling and iceskating on the lake all the time. My brother had a snowmobile, he sold it when he moved down to North Carolina.

Digipak 5th January 2002 15:55

It snowed one day here. Everything was white, and then the next day the green patches reappeared. I wanted to snow skate too (like a skateboard without wheels, or a snowboard without the bindings). There are still a few white places here, but most of its green again :( Hopefully it'll snow again soon.

Usually we don't have any snow early, most of ours comes in January or February. The first snow of the year last year (2001) was on Christmas day. We had a big snow storm when I was 6, about 2 feet of snow, and it broke my swingset that I never used. I want another one of those (snowstorms, not swingsets).

Oh, and I live in Lexington, Kentucky :)

mark e 5th January 2002 18:12

0k... It's melting in Tallinn... :(
