ive only made i and a half wa2 skins, and i suck at photoshop (see included self portrait) and my next skin will be wa3. i have to learn school things, first, though

edit! although i do think people wil still skin wa2 forever.

Xerxes 8th January 2002 06:59

I refuse to skin W3 until a utility comes out. I do not code, and I do not want to learn how.

Mr Jones 8th January 2002 07:24

Been there, done that, next..........

bobo 8th January 2002 07:25

i will

Forevever 8th January 2002 11:32

maybe - I haven't decided

Nini 8th January 2002 14:08

I think yes...it's intereistinf g on the one hand but on the other hand I don't like the idea that skinning will become something of *who can design the best interface?*
Scripting? Havent tried it yet, but it can't be too difficult...? CAn you do kewl things with it? :D
Let''s see what happens when the official wa3 is out. :)

jasonl 8th January 2002 16:31

hey, i dont know the first thing about scripting, but ive got a winamp skin in the works. how? simple, just get over to the winamp3 skins/scripting forum and ask for a coder to help you build the skin. if your skin's psd [thats right, photoshop is the chosen one for wa3] has potential, your likely to get help straight away.

and with wa3 its not about designing the best interface or anything - it never was. just do what you should, and try and create something you'll like and use. after all, who designs for anyone but themselves?

give winamp3 a go, its worth it. it does take a bit of getting used to the fact that you have almost no boundries, but once you're over that youll see just how much fun winamp3 skinning can be.

heres a link to the kaolla2 [my winamp3 skin] thread if you want to know what i mean by a designer and a coder(s) working together:

I voted yes. I'm not goint ot refuse to skin WA3 but I'm more of a pixel pusher - Liquescent Player BKB1 only had one computer generate effect in it - a drop shadow. I'll take a look and see if I like it and/or have the skill to make it look pretty. Anyway as said WA3 lurves WA2 skins as well. :D And Rhino and others have put together some nice resources.

dude883 8th January 2002 17:29

i voted yes, but ive never scripted in my whole life... It'll take too much time to learn how to do it, so I'll just get a friend to do the code for me. guess i'll wait until winamp3 is out cuz it doesn't really make sense to start a skin for a program that isn't even finished yet... (bugsnstuff)

flatmatt 8th January 2002 22:26

I'm gonna hate it, they're gonna suck, but yes.

aestas caerulea 8th January 2002 22:27

I hope WA3 skins don't end up -all- being metal/3D high-tech-looking things. They're cool, but there are other things that could be done too. I have some ideas, but I'm better at 2D graphics generally, and nobody's going to help poor little non-programmer me with a WA3 skin because almost nobody likes flat stuff.

chiquita chad 8th January 2002 23:22

ill probably try wa3. but not until the final release.

btw, what's gonna happen to the skin forums when wa3 if finalized? will they just be merged into one? or will they remain as is?

binary hero 9th January 2002 15:47

of course. In fact, i'm working on one/two (it's complicated) now.

flatmatt 9th January 2002 19:55

So, can we convince someone to have them leave us as Winamp 2 Skin Love and make a new one for WA3? Please? :)

It's the scripting I don't understand. :(

Nini 10th January 2002 08:10

And what will happen to the WA2 skin DB?
Not that anyone would like to download "boring" ;) wa2 skins...

skinme! 10th January 2002 13:13

I've just had some ideas for a Winamp3 skin so I'm off to learn the basics (skinning and scripting) and think of more cool stuff. Shame I'm not good enough at graphics to make what I want to do work. Perhaps when I've made sketch it'll attract some talent :D

Nini 10th January 2002 16:53

oooh... :D
Do you want to show us? :D

skinme! 10th January 2002 19:21

Well, I don't want to show you the attempts at recreating it digitally coz they failed but I will scan in a sketch later, when I do a slighlty better one (w/o crossings out and weirdness).

I think this would be a nice project for anybody in here who want's to have a go with me.

The Only Lynx 10th January 2002 23:05

im looking up against it.. seems hard to do. .oh well.. maybe some day

ditto

bring on the wa3 skinner.exe

Lucid DM 11th January 2002 17:12

I'm definately gonna skin WA3 at some point, just not in the near future. And I've got some plans for a skin that is very *not* metallic and high-tech...

binary hero 11th January 2002 17:23

the scripting is really easy. I have done quite a bit of programming in my time (PHP, SQL, HTML, VB, pascal, BASIC...)and WA3 is the easiest of them all.

Nini 11th January 2002 17:51

Looking forward to them, Lucid :D
*sigh* I only hope that I won't see a skinner skin again when WA3 is here... :D
You get :igor: when you see 100s of them and they all look the same :igor: :igor: :igor:

Of course, I hear Winamp3 scripting is based on C++. That's all well and good, but the only programming language I've ever used is GW/QBASIC. :(

On an up-note, I did make a great little QBASIC program if anyone wants it, hehe. Of course, it's a .BAS, but that's just a fancy name for a .TXT. AVS makes for cool QBASIC graphics. :D

skinme! 11th January 2002 21:27

Ahhh, the good old days....

*Off, to find QBASIC and download it again*

binary hero 12th January 2002 12:56

I'm sure there is a faster way of doing that flattmatt. lemme think...

flatmatt 13th January 2002 21:16

Well, I wanted to keep it fairly close to what we've learned in class...

Though, if you're talking about the speed of program execution, the delays are on purpose, it's supposed to be more "animated" than just "display, then clear".

But I did realize that I could have saved lines in the box drawing with this:

code:

'Draw a white box
FOR J = 1 TO 100000
NEXT J
LINE (100, 20)-(540, 460), 15, B

And that the year was wrong. *slaps self*

garetjax 14th January 2002 06:52

hmmm I wonder if you can load your qbasic code into a html page....

using the <script language="vbscript"> or plugin the qbasic.exe as a plugin object...(heh)....

That would be too funny.

sadorf 15th January 2002 05:34

will i skin for winamp3? certainly

im still learnin how to script and shit, but im gettin it. so far all i was able to do is port one of my winamp2.xx skins to winamp3 and i actually like it beter tan the winamp 2.xx version. Sure winamp3 has some skinning problems like the EQ vis and the shoutcast server list. i dont know if any of those are fixed yet, but they wil be sooner or later. i think skinning winamp3 is fun cause you can do whatever the hell you want, no limits at all.

ok i hate typing to much but i just thought i would speak my mind
