What's the point?

Why did Microsoft bother adding the ability to make an internet address a tool bar in the taskbar? How are you possibly able to fit a whole webpage in something less than 100 pixels tall?

A smart innovation, that is, you type in your url in the address bar, and a big windowed IE opens up.:D

cause that's the point ...

RM, did you try it?

henry3k56 19th January 2002 04:40

I never use the address bar, I just know its there, and that it works.

BeerBaron 19th January 2002 04:43

i use it, quite handy.

instead of: click >> type www.winamp.com >> hit enter.

the proccess is reduced to Type >> www.winamp.com >> hit enter

FUN!

Even faster (for second time use, and beyond). Make a bookmark of www.winamp.com on the desktop, double click an there it is. Voila! No typing required on 2nd try!
Maybe a long wait if you're on AOL, quick one on ATT, and no wait on DSL (MSN Broadband) or Cable!

I totally agree. I was foolish enough to try it myself, and look what happened to me.

You're IE's are stupid. They're supposed to open in a new window. Check your Settings for IE, and something around there says you can open new windows when you open shortcuts, or open a new URL by typing it in in the Run program. Same goes for the address bar in the tool bar.

You want more fun?

Right click on the task bar -> Toolbars -> New Toolbar... -> In the text entry box where it says 'Folder:' enter http://www.winamp.com

viola. Instant stupidity.

KelseyB 19th January 2002 05:58

that is, quite possibly, the funniest thing i have ever seen in my life.

lmao :D
good luck with a fix

:btw: what os are you running?

No Name 19th January 2002 05:58

something is wrong with your install of windows. Both the RUN and START MENU URL bar work fine here. Open to a new window.

griffinn 19th January 2002 06:00

Sadly, it's an OEM preinstalled WinME.

But I believe neither WinME nor IE did that to me. It was Macromedia Fireworks. :p :D

SSJ4 Gogitta 19th January 2002 09:40

ROTFLMAO
Well your IE is then an intelligent evil thing. I can't help it. It should always open in a new window. I don't know much about ME, but its a beefed up version of 98, with more features, and screwups within.
