It's fontastic!
I'm looking for the font "Chicago". I've looked everywhere. If you have it, or tell me where it's last been sighted, I will give you a fontastic gift (just a thank you email. nothing fancy).
|
is it the one on this page:

Ah! Thank you muchly. Now, did you want that gift, or you want to keep spam to a minimum?

this is kinda off-topic,but not really...it`s about fonts...i`m having a problem with them. i put the .ttf file into the C:\WINDOWS\FONTS\ folder, but then it doesn`t show up. anyone know why? it`s not a bug in the font because i`ve tried 15 different fonts, and there isn`t a good chance that they are all bugged.

oh,so i can delete some of the system fonts that i really don`t like? or back them up?
|
Ahh... that would explain why my font cd didn't work. :)
I have a TTF cd with over 1,100 fonts on it, and I can't get any of them to work... well, they work with fontviewer, but that's it. |
I think the limit is 255, correct me if I'm wrong anybody.
|
I have 422 fonts on my system and all of them work in all my appz and always have even when I had ealier windows versions (since I've kept back ups up my fonts for a good 3 years).
I have never encountered Windows only being able to use a set number of fonts at once, but I have on Mac's. On my schools iMAC's and PowerG3's there is something around a 100 font limit. |
907 fonts here. WinXP rocks.
|
it's an administrative step taken by win2000 to regulate the memory draw of the machine.. that's why fonts are limited in the fonts folder, but that could be worked around. I suggest you use a font management system (font navigator by Corel or Adobe Type management or Extensis Suitcase) to handle all the fonts you wish. an average of simultanous 200 fonts is fair although serious designers will squeeze the number to incredible minimums and activate only the fonts required by current projects.
|
I think you have to goto the Fonts folder, click on File->Install new font other wise it might not work. I know I tried just copying some to the fonts folder and it didn't work.
|
Yeah, what Phily Baby said.
The number of fonts you have installed isn't limited, unless the limit is approx. 1000. I used to have over 900 fonts installed (my Dad's a DTP'er) and Windows 95 would still boot up. It'd take a friggin long time, but it'd boot. :D You don't have to Copy the TTF into your Fonts directory. Just leave it wherever it is, open your Fonts folder, and go to File -> Install New Font. Check the "Copy to Fonts directory" checkbox, and you're away. Too easy. (Like Phily Baby said) :) -jaz |

yah, there is no "Install New Font" option in XP. any ideas? if someone lacks motivation,i will be happy to give them a little gift once they figure out my little problem. and that gift is...GTA3 font
|
have you tried manually typing in the font name in the font box of Word, or some other font using software? Just because a font isn't listed doesn't mean it's not installed.
|
w00t! nm,found a font installer on Cnet,im good now. but if anyone wants this font, ill still give it to ya. :)
