Outside Joke?
 

I was joking around with a group of friends and had a simply screwy idea. If there's such thing as an inside joke, are there outside jokes aswell? Jokes that only people who aren't in the know find funny?

LOL! Good question but I don't know...

Maybe we are all just lab rats running around in a maze, and our tormenting Gods are laughing at our petty lives and foibles.

Maybe, but then everything we find funny is an 'outside' joke of sorts, just becuase we're not in the know on everything. But then buy the same token are their outside of outside jokes?

Jokes to women about sexist matters don't go down well but you mates might like it so that could be an outside joke.

Exactly - you can make a joke about something which you or your friends find funny, but someone else may not find it funny due to their personal situation, whatever that might be!

Those jokes don't tend to be the best though! :D

If ppl that arent in the know find an "outside joke" funny, wouldnt it then be an "inside joke" for the ppl not in the know?

hadn't thought of that, but if it's an inside joke to the people not in the know then the inside is larger then the outside, and simple logic tells us that if the inside circle is larger then the outside circle it's nolonger an outside circle is it?

Actually, i believe that technically all jokes are "inside jokes" because not everybody finds them funny. An "outside joke" (if such a thing exists) would have to funy to everybody that heard it in that community, be it a school, group of friends, family, but people outside this community would still find it funny. Are you as confused as I am right now?:eek: :weird:

Large Group + Funny Joke = Outside Joke
Small Group + Funny Joke = Inside Joke

Large Group + Not-so-funny Joke = Inside Joke
Small Group + Not-so-funny Joke = Outside Joke

its an inside joke.
If I go out in the front yard and say:

its an outside joke.

I went and did some thinking on this (actually i went to work and needed to find something to distract my brain). And i've come to the decision that there's no such thing as an outside joke. It's just an inside joke with a different inside (yeah, i know, i argued against that earlier).

so thats my final $.02 (well atleast untill my opinion switches anyway)

An outside joke can exist, only if you and your friends are complete dumbasses. An inside joke is when you tell a joke, and only your circle of friends get it. No one outside that circle gets it. So, an outside joke would be when you tell a joke, but no one in the circle gets it, but everyone outside the circle does. There would be no real point in telling a joke like that, unless you had limited mental capacity or something, and didn't know any better.

i'm just bloody well suprised that for somehting that came to my mind at like 2:15am last night it managed to arrise such a discussion. Apparently thats what these forums are good for. and to think that everyone thought i was crazy
