the book called 1984 by george orwell. read it if you havn't yet, everyone should.
1984 is the book in which the phrase "Big brother is watching you" where big brother was the collective name for the inner core of the totalitarian dictatorship.

1984 was also the year Apple introduced Macintosh, I'd imagine that's a significant year for someone here other then me. And BTW 1984 is both a great book and the year of me birth
