*give Macs A Chance*
For a long time I have been wanting to broadcast on the shoutcast server :( but of course the is a "PC World" so its not possible! I know what Im going to be told, "go buy a PC"...Just wanted to know if there is some way to go about this on on a mac...
-ss;) |
Possibly in the future. Winamp's already been ported to the Mac, so eventually, I'd suspect that the Shoutcast DSP server plugin thingy would be as well.

thanks for the reply:p
|
why exactly ARE you running on a mac?
|
ugh.... I should write a prewritten reply for that question. I'd answer it, but chances are that you are too closeminded to accept the fact that Macs are at minimum equal to PCs.
|
why do i have a mac? because compared to macs, pc's are nothing but junk.
|
I guess i dont think thats a good answer. Besides that fact that "PCs are nothing but junk" why? i dont like mac myself because i never learned enough to be able to use them comfortably. so hence i use a PC. Not because i think they arent as good. If the differnce in goodness, so to speak, were really that high they wouldnt be able to hold steady at there 5% or so market share and jump up a little with every product release. Visual appearence aside. they would not be used for graphic design if they didnt have the power, nor would they be used for professional video editing. PCs are the norm for most people (i'm gonna go out on a limb here) because of the greater numbers of widly advertised software for them. games especially.
Most people dont know or wont admitt why they use one or the other. Just being against mac or against PCs is stupid. Just because is a nonanswer. you can do better. |
I know why I use a PC, it's because...it's a handmedown, and I'm to damn poor and unemployed to buy a new computer.:(

Most other OS's are not hardware independant. Most other OSs only run on the Intel chip, unless if it's another version of the OS (i.e. an Intel version of Solaris won't run on a SPARC version, and vice versa).

PC Rage
First of all, I own two PCs and no Macs, but people all around me, who own the same (usually only one, though) will denounce Macs as stupid, lame, and generally agents of Hell. I resent that. Not as much as a Mac fan would, but I still resent it. So, here goes:
The only reason so-called 'PCs' sell so much is because they have the marketing and brainwashing capabilities. A Pentium IV says it has 1.5 GHz and people say, "Wow!!!" The G4 says 500 MHz and people say, "This is a piece of junk!" That's one primary reason why the G4 was pulled out of markets. Yet the G4 could do more calculations per sec and handle much more information! If PCs actually used the power available to them and tried to be innovative without cheating for once then they might be good. But that's not the case (Generally.) And as for the people, I will just say this: people need to not be assuming presumptuous idiots!!! ...And yet, that's unavoidable. Truth is a paradox. -BAMNman P.S. Yay, my first rave!!!! LOL! |
Even if PCs ran at full capacity (i.e. full CPU load), they couldn't catch up to a Mac. Motorola chips do several calculations at once whereas Intel chips do calculations sequentially. There are other more technical reasons why Macs are inherently faster, but they are really complex, and I'm a bit sketchy on the details.

Oh my, the debate still rages on, and on, and on.
Just use what you're comfortable with. |
My $0.02:
I've been using macs up at school in broadcast journalism for a few years now. Nothing exactly special about them that i've found (granted, they're slightly older G4s, but still OK). They run programs, they do what I need them to. Sometimes they crash. Some days they're ornery. Some days they're a pain in the ass. Nothing I haven't seen with a PC. Conclusion: damned if I care what I'm using, as long as it does what I need it to. Kudos to apple, though, for making a UNIX-based OS. Kick ass. The reasons I don't use a mac at home: PCs are more compatable, and DO play games better, which I do often. PCs are upgradeable to a much greater extent than any macs that I've seen. I like upgradeability, thank you. PCs are cheaper. Granted, macs may be faster for certain operations at the highest speeds, but for what I do, I don't need dual 1ghz processors. |
