Spiffed 5th February 2002 04:56

sorry, got the wrong dir on the server, fixed it

rm' 5th February 2002 05:01

I get that alot. It starts at 4x (the max my burner goes) but switches to 2x about 3 minutes in. Cheapo Pine. I'm very happy with my Verbatim DataLifePlus Premium discs though :)

Spiffed 5th February 2002 05:08

yeah Nem, that was the idea... stupid burner, it's capable of 6x, but the damned media sux

Spiffed 5th February 2002 05:12

it was fast when it was new, and the one in my main machine is a 20x, it's just that this machine was were i was

Spiffed 5th February 2002 05:16

I remember shelling out for my original 2x reader. Now that was BACK in the day.

No Name 5th February 2002 06:00

4 speed USB!!! 20 minutes!!! wooo !!

Lucid DM 5th February 2002 06:48

20 speed http://www.davidmear.com/smilies/tongue.gif!
Hehe. 5 minutes for an entire CD.
Unfortunately, this means I have to shell out for more expensive CDs if I want to make use of the speedhttp://www.davidmear.com/smilies/embarassed.gif.

Rocker 5th February 2002 06:55

usb 4 speed HP 8230e

yay:cry:

John M 5th February 2002 10:21

HP 4x2x20 here. and i never have a problem with cheap cds. i've had PNYs and now i'm on some no-name brand, but they all burn up fine.

has anybody seen the black cd-r's? cool as hell

Matt 5th February 2002 12:22

Shouldn't you burn audio cd's at x2 max?

I always use 2 speed for audio. Many cd players had problems with the 4 speed ones i wrote. But since they were cheap cd's it may have been that instead.

Gonzotek 5th February 2002 12:36

I don't know what I was *supposed* to do, so I always burned at 12x on my desktop and 8x on my laptop. No problems with any of the media I've used (mostly Verbatim, Maxell, and Imation). I've had problems with Easy CD Creator, and as of Nero 5.5.6.4, Nero didn't like my laptops cdr/dvd combo drive. Haven't had the chance to try the new Nero 5.5.7.2 (I might have the last digit wrong, but it's 5.5.7.xsomething)

LENZ.NET 5th February 2002 13:02

I am gonna buy one of those spiffy Sony 22x with the buffer protection thing happening I think. They should burn a cd in 3 minutes.

Yeah, like Playstation discs. They're l33t!

fwgx 5th February 2002 14:06

I can burn fine at 12x. I've only had problems when trying to copy a disc directly because the cdrw is the secondry slave and my dvd is secondry master, it couldn't keep up with that transfer speed.

james 5th February 2002 16:21

I have 4 IDE channels with 1 device on each! I can copy from my crappy old CD drive to my 24-10-40 CDRW at 16-speed with no probs - at 24 it gets a bit pissed off though!

I remember that, too. I was watching you then, just like I am, now. Mwah ha ha!

;)

Actually, I do remember getting my first CD-ROM. I was "so pimp". :D

henry3k56 5th February 2002 22:49

I have an HP Cd-rw. 20 minutes USB, fixes all the errors unlike Plextor's CD-rw. Hahaha.
I use Verbatim cd-r's, they haven't failed me yet.:D
Now I got these TDK cd-rs, gonna see if these are gonna make colorful coasters for my dining table.;)

fish 5th February 2002 23:00

I have a TDK VeloCD 16x/10x/40x
Thats 16x for burning.

Those cheapo discs don't screw up as much as I thought. Actually they work pretty good.

henry3k56 5th February 2002 23:06

I think those are the kinds I have. They're in flat jewel cases (the new kind of case) with matching color jewel cases, and CD coverings. I think they're neat, but where the heck do you label the thing?

liquidmotion 5th February 2002 23:20

my tdk velocd 24x12x40 works just fine, and in four mins. although i cannot rip from cda to mp3 in the 5 secs it says. and my cd's are only like 20x or 16x, so it takes 6mins or so :)

cya

Merlin 6th February 2002 00:04

So long as I can put stuff on for backup purposes and be able to read it back again, I don't give a monkey's who makes the fecking disc!

henry3k56 6th February 2002 00:16

Unless the CD falls apart, like the cheap generic start-up company brands. My friend bought some, and had to use them as frisbees because they fell apart once they were burned on.

Merlin 6th February 2002 00:21

If they 'fell apart' how could you use one as a Frisbee? Re-read my previous post carefully.

They Fall apart after they, sorry! Gramatical errors.....bah!

Merlin 6th February 2002 00:28

That's a Making Sense error.

henry3k56 6th February 2002 00:33

Gramatical, because of the past, present, and future tenses I screw up all the time.

Xcalibur 6th February 2002 00:34

um.. if you bought 100cds at only 3 bucks, should you really be concerned that they only burn at 1x? lol

Spiffed 6th February 2002 05:54

Because initially (when the spindle was opened) they all worked @ 6x, not it's only the ocasional one that rights at 2x and some are dead right off the batt

KelseyB 6th February 2002 07:07

my pine (24x10x40x) burns fine. it came with justlink buffer under run protection and nero 5.5.5 something...

it works fine
and maxtor disks work great with it

hummm...

sgtfuzzbubble011 8th February 2002 18:39

I've got a Pacific Digital external USB 4x4x8 cd-rw drive. Works great, albeit slowly. :) I use Verbatim DataLifePlus and TDK cd-r discs. Those work great, too.

The only problems I have are buffer underrun errors if I try to burn too fast. I can burn at 2x if I'm making data cds, and at 1x if I'm making audio cds (well, I can burn at 2x, but I get some skips every now and then). USBv1 doesn't have a really fast transfer speed. :p

Huehuetenango 8th February 2002 20:33

i have an hp 8230 usb, too
4x, yeah
though it seems to hate the blank cd's i use
they're blank on both sides (i mean, no company label, so i have no idea what type they are) they cost me like 5 bucks for 200, it'll usually spit out one or two cd's half done before it'll work
