this is 1 hour later :D

edit: this is taking forever!

binary hero 10th February 2002 21:47

nice.

Forevever 10th February 2002 22:33

yeah - very nice - you must have mad patience
I started an mspaint skin - then it occured to me that there's a reason why bigger and better paint programs are released...

not that I don't appreciate your effort - but let me ask you this
if you want something for dinner - do you go out back and rub two sticks together, get a fire going, then cook it?

like most people, you probably just turn the knob on the burner

ignore me

I like it :)

Cleanup 10th February 2002 22:39

'Tis very nice :D

Would you care to join the MS Paint Skinners' Club? We just started. I'm the president, treasurer, secretary, and Official Skin Scout.

We only have one member so far, unfortunately. :D

Cleanup 10th February 2002 22:40

Btw, could we see the Main Window, plz?

stttafffy 11th February 2002 00:02

that was just the eq, to test out shading and gradients. heres a ss.

i will definitely join your club! sign me up.

im doing it in mspaint, because, well, i have that much spare time. i fiddled around in photoshop and got the same result in 4 minutes that it took me in 2 hours. anyway, im a skining masochist.
i think ill call it sttamp, for STTaffy Amp Microsoft Paint. a little contrived, but i think its clever. oh- after im done in paint i am going to fool with it in PS and PSP to see what else i get. soo, without further ado-

stttafffy 11th February 2002 00:06

heres the wsz, its 90% done cept for the pl stacks. il do them now. anyway, check out the vol bar ( i saw something very similar on a featured skin, kind of borrowed the idea) but i did the averages for the gradients by hand with ms calculator.

man, that is dedication.
respect due to the MSpainters
:)

~Supey 11th February 2002 01:44

[old man rant]darn you young whipersnappers! I was the only MSPainter before you hoolignas arrived! now with yer new-fangled "MSCalculators" and such. Back in my day we didn't have calcualtors, we had to guess the gradient colors with that little brightness bar on the side of the custom colors window.[/old man rant]

:p

actually, could you please tell me how to do RBG value thing on the calculator? I'm not too good at math...and don't know how to do that type of stuff...

actually, that was a lie - I'm 2 years ahead of my grade in math, but I still don't know how to do that stuff;)

this is a very nice skin you got thar, you have achieved orriginallity in design, which is essential for a good MSPaint skin, since you're obviously not going to be able to achieve stunning effects and textures

stttafffy 11th February 2002 01:49

im about to throw up after 5 straight hours. i did those gradients in the first ss with the brightness bar :D

the ones for ms calc were the ones for the volume bar

edit:
for the rgb values get out a sheet of paper...
then write down the lightest colors' r, g, and b values.
then the darkest,
then average them out, and you get the middle color. then do the same for the middle and lightese, that will give you the value in between them. then continue for a long time, until all of the middles are filled up

code:
first........then...........and then

code:
lightest.....lightest.......lightest

code:
--...........--.............lil darker

code:
--...........lighter........light

code:
--...........--.............kinda light

code:
middle.......middle.........middle

code:
--...........--.............kinda dark

code:
--...........darker.........dark-ish

code:
--...........--.............darker

code:
darkest......darkest........darkest

each entry will look like this;

title
R: ###
G: ###
B: ###

(anyeurism)
(stroke)
(death)

i didnt even start the pl stacks :( <i hate those>

edit: i fixed the whitespace (or lack thereof) in my lil diagram

edit:

I GIVE UP EITH THE GODDAM CHART!!:hang:  :hang: goddam fonts. jeez. deep breath, ok.

Cleanup 11th February 2002 02:39

I don't find the PL stacks hard... For some reason, I absolutely hate TITLEBAR.bmp..

It seems evil. :igor:

Btw, I was just joking about that club. But it's good to know that I'm not the only very persistant skinner here.

Some people make very, very, very (very) nice skins within less than half-an-hour in Photoshop or PSP, and we spend hours upon hours, days upon days, weeks, months on skins that churn out good but not quite as good as the very, very, very (very) nice skins.

I actually find MS Paint quite capable of making skins. All my skins have been made in Paint. :D

Btw, I'm going on the AVS window for Past-Elle amp. I'm done the Minibrowser, but I'm not going to make cursors, too damn lazy...

stttafffy 11th February 2002 02:58

i kinda figured about the club :P
i HATE that goddam ->winshade button for the EQ. it screws me up every time. and the shared line between the highlighted and not hi- main ws's. and the way that there is only one direction of animation in the balance bar. also, i guess thats it

Bop 11th February 2002 03:33

Great skin stttafffy. Thanks for sharing... :)

:) thank you, everybody :)

i am done the skinning. cursors next! im going to use microangelo, i shoudl be done tomorrow. i will make them the same style i made them for my first skin- ill have it at 1001winampskins tomorrow night :D

Nini 11th February 2002 17:20

first of all: I really like it. :)
second: RESPECT! [MS Paint? Whoa!] :D
third: a little suggestion: the eq thing is great. I only don't like these whithe horizontal lines that are below the eq bars. an you make them a bit darker? Maybe blue? I think thet they stick out too much. :p Maybe it's just me. ;)

~Supey 11th February 2002 20:46

thanks a bunch

but you didn't have to do all that code suff, I got it from the text, and I didn't undterstand those diagrams at all

now I can go off and a an awe-inspiring skin then gloat because I did it in MSPaint and most people can't do that stuff in PSP

(kidding of course;))

:up:I'm eagerly awaiting download

Not true. The frames alternate left and right. Say the first frame is centre and the second is 15% right then the next is 30% left, you see?

stttafffy 11th February 2002 21:45

skinme: eh?
i made a template amp to see where everything went, and i numbered all of the blance bars- it goes 1, 7, 9, 12, 14, 16, 18, 21, 23, 25, 28. in both directions starting out from the center. i dont get what you are saying?

nini: the eq thing is on my to-do list, they were originally markers for outlines.

skinme! 11th February 2002 22:56

Ok, I may be wrong (and if so, I stand corrected) but...

when I was making Liquescent Player's balance bar I tested it out and found that it went through about 15 steps from 0% to 100% but each step was on a different side. eg:

F1 Center
F2 10% (shows only when moving balance to right)
F3 20% (shows only when moving balance to left)
F4 30% (shows only when moving balance to right)
F5 40% (shows only when moving balance to left)

hmmmmmmmmmmm. i really dont know.

anyway, here is the ss for the final deal, and the link to the download at 1001winampskins.com. the ss should be below. tell me what you think sucks or i should change.

ripe 12th February 2002 07:42

yay! this is a really stylish skin
love the vol bar and the eq sliders, and the design is well balanced throughout all the windows.
only one small thing i would question is the transparency in winshade, i dont think the skin needs it.

its only 37KB !:igor:

congrats:D

ripe 12th February 2002 12:41

stttafffy, i've had this skin on all morning and i've noticed a bug in the vis area of the playlist.
your pledit.bmp is 4 pixels too short on the right hand side.
(the width is 276, it should be 280)
:)

bobo 12th February 2002 16:22

funny, i often seem to have a too long pledit.bmp for some reason:p

nice skin, dont really like the eqbars tho but other than that its all good. nice colors too

Doggy Dog 12th February 2002 17:59

And I thought I was the best Paint skinner around here :D:D:D. Just kidding, your skin is great, especially for Paint :D

stttafffy 12th February 2002 20:26

thanks ripe!! i thought that was a glitch with the program, but nw i can go back and fix my other skin too. thanks! that was bugging me.:D

no pun intended. :D i didnt even notice that.
skinme- im using your awesome black bubble wrap wallpaper, its great

stttafffy 13th February 2002 03:25

i got emailed about another bug: the ws maximize for the pl. i updated it at 1001 winamp skins.

stttafffy 16th February 2002 05:00

i put in animated cursors and mikro

i updated it- same filename, it will save over any older versions. i removed most of the ws transparency ( i originally put that in because i was bored of blending grays) changed little things, and thats it. i give up on the inside of the mb. the ss should not have changed at all, either- the link in my sig should work :D

Cool. I still have that black bubblewrap hanging around in my room. I used some of it to wrap somebody's birthday present and tied it with white shoelace :D Anyway,do I really have to download again... *goes off to download again*

What about this button? Because it's a known bug that it moves 1 pixel right after being clicked. Always does, no real way to avoid it.

GoldenSphynx 19th April 2003 20:04

Yes, this is an old ass thread, but umm, can anyone tell me how sttaffy used Paint to make those wonderful gradients in the gray pipey things? He hasn't been here in over a month, so I really can't ask him. :(

flatmatt 19th April 2003 21:08

Holy crap it's old. Look, it's me! :D Now to figure out what in the world I was doing awake in the morning back then...

Cleanup 19th April 2003 21:33

Those are what you say they are - gradients.

In MSPaint, to change colours, ie. go from light to dark for a gradient, you can edit your colours in "Colors," "Edit Colors...".

For quick changing of colours, use the eyedropper tool. Left click to use the foreground colour, and rightclick for the backround colour.

It's pretty straightforward...

Krynis 19th April 2003 22:07

well im glad he asked this is a sexy skin

GoldenSphynx 19th April 2003 22:47

I can be sexy if you want me to be too. ;)

Cleanup, yes, but umm, I don't understand exactly how to get the exact next color to use for the gradient. :(

skinme! 19th April 2003 23:01

For a sec, I thought Forever was back :(

uh, yeah, "quick" :D

GoldenSphynx 20th April 2003 00:25

But if you zoom in to main.bmp in sttaffy's skin, you see single diagonal rows of color, each row a different color, how did he know what colors to use and how would i be able to derive the same effect, if needed that is.
