invisible winamp

My winamp is totally invisible
except for icon on status bar.
Tried comments on the forum about
clicking on main window choice in
options etc but tried everything
suggested and is still invisible.
Even re-installed it.
Any help?

Is it doing anything?? Playing music for example???

DJ Egg 14th February 2002 03:48

Sounds like it could be another case of the dreaded gen_nomad.dll

If not, then you should find this thread useful:
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=69679
(includes instructions how to edit winamp.ini accordingly)

Ok Tried all that was said
clicking on main window in status bar
tried alt+W and tried looking for
gen_nomad.dll but don't have it, so
still stuck!

Are you sure that you haven't simply dragged it off the screen????

NRen2k5 14th February 2002 19:13

If so, then just set your desktop resolution higher to find WinAMP and bring it farther up and to the left.

Just once again to be sure, have you clicked the system tray or taskbar icon and then hit Alt-W? :)

djsoftwareskins 14th February 2002 19:33

Yeah...

Or hit ALT+TAB and see what shows up.
if you see :winamp: you dragged it off the screen.

Good Luck

GOT the winamp icon in the winamp editor
when I hit alt+tab but how do I get it back?
Tried making the screen resolution bigger
and scrolled but don't see anything!

DJ Egg 14th February 2002 21:02

Did you follow the instructions in that link I posted? :confused:

Just for clarification, here they are again:

<quote>

Close Winamp using Task Manager
(Win9x: Ctrl+Alt+Del | Win2k/XP: Ctrl+Shift+Esc)
Winamp -> End Task

In Explorer, goto your winamp folder
Open winamp.ini in Notepad

Scroll down for these entries and change them accordingly:

priority=1
minimized=0
taskbar=0
eq_open=1
mw_open=1
pe_open=1
windowshade=0

I know taskbar=0 sounds like it should mean: no icon in the taskbar, but it's actually the setting to make winamp appear in the taskbar only.

Save winamp.ini
Reopen Winamp

</quote>

Whilst you're at it (ie. editing Winamp.ini), also check the following entries:

wx=0
wy=0
use_eq=1
eq_ws=0
eq_wx=0
pe_wx=0

There's other settings which can be edited, but it all depends on what your current screen resolution is set to.

If you can't see winamp.ini in the Winamp dir, then do the following:

Windows Folder Options -> View tab
Uncheck: Hide extensions for known file types
Checkmark: Show hidden files and folders ("Show all files" under some OS'es)

Hey, if these settings were any different, ya never know, but you might now also be able to see all the DLL files in the Winamp\Plugins dir, including gen_nomad.dll (if it's there).

If the problem persists:

Basic Uninstall -> Reinstall procedure:
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=50818

If the problem still persists, then give us some more sys specs,
esp. Windows OS and soundcard details
(ie. have you got an SBLive or Audigy card?)

ShoutingMime 14th February 2002 22:04

Not sure how to help you, but I've had this problem when I create my own skins... but when it happens there's a sliver of winamp somewhere on the desktop. you may want to change your wallpaper/desktop to white or black. just in case you've got the same sort of problem.
it'll let you see if there's a.... smear, clich on the screen, that clich could be winamp.

Got it!
CHeers and thanks for the winamp.ini file help.
Tried changing the stuff in ini and kept getting
part of winamp back (ie. no playlist or browser).
In the end just installed another copy in another
directory and replaced the ini file with the new one.
One more question- when I shut winamp why does it say
error in kernal etc....?
Still works ok though.
