*luck*

48 is about the most i can hold.

jns 15th February 2002 07:25

I never sleep.
It's true! :igor:

stttafffy 15th February 2002 07:48

if i never slept i would be in jail be now
:)

PhotoFx 15th February 2002 07:55

whereas i would merely be dead.

stttafffy 15th February 2002 08:08

check in #1

it is now 4 am. not that impressive... yet. this makes, uhh, holy crap- it seems as if i have been listening to pink floyd - money for a long time! anyway, that makes 17 hours uptime i think. next check in at 6 am or earlier if i get bored. so far i have gotten respectable in terragen, but i still can't make night scenes with a moon or day scenes with sunbeams. i can get the night to look right, but the sun when i make it look like a moon gets all weird, es p at low angles to the ground. if anyone knows how, post post! i am going to go watch a movie. ill keep posting. ill write a review on the movie later.

stttafffy 15th February 2002 08:11

i dont know where i got 11 am from. i woke up at 3. so to amend my post, its 13 hours, not 17.

stttafffy 15th February 2002 10:36

its 6:35 am here, that makes uh, 9+6 and a half = 17.5 hours.

DJ ROACH 15th February 2002 10:48

all natural? or drug induced?

lil vixen 15th February 2002 11:52

Ok dumb question.
Why are you doing this?
and Good luck I guess!

stttafffy 15th February 2002 12:08

i have alcahol to help. it is 8 am, and im doin fine...
im doing it out of boredom.
coinbird is helping me a lot. i watched the matrix, and i think i am going to watch some old beavis anb butthead- wait, chasing amy instead. hmm, i got mikroangelo running, and i am making cursors for my skin. i am going to dl and skin mikroamp today, and figger out how to make a background image for the MB. terragen also is very good for wasting time. ill crack open bryce, too, and see what that is about. i have to walk to class in , cant subtract. at 10 30. ill do my hw there, and then i will come home, and get drunk. at least that is the plan. it is 8 00, so i have only been up for 9+8 hours. syyea in two hours w/ another update :P i guess hat will be at ten oclock or s=close to it.

piesupreme 15th February 2002 12:38

here's a hint. open the window, so it's cold. don't smoke or drink (if you do anyways). try to always keep occupied. the best way to do this is play a long game, like final fantasy or GT3. make sure you have no commitments. lots of food and water. cold water usually keeps you up longer. DON'T watch movies that have a complicated, clow or boring storyline. watch films that have lots of action, very loud, with big explosions. listen to your favourite type of loud music, preferably rock or similar. try to take little notice of time, otherwise you will keep on checking up at the time, realise how slow it's going, and go to bed out of boredom.

how do i know all this? i did this a while back, last summer. i lasted 5 days without sleep, and by then i felt horrible, as though i was going to be sick everywhere. on the 5th day i couldn't speak, i felt devoid of all energy, couldn't hardly move. butt he best thing was, when i did go to bed, i slept 1 day and about 7 hours solid. that was fun, sleeping through a day. i haven't seen anyone do that before.

stttafffy 15th February 2002 12:45

all good tips. i had to stop watching chasing amy, though it is a great movie, it is very stressful to watch. i have slept through a whole day before, that was realy fun. i forget when it was, maybe 7 months ago at the end of HS. im gonn drink a little, because whenever i drink and then sober up again without falling asleep i feel greatt, and plus, if i dont drink the rest of the beer i bought my roomate will steal it.

stttafffy 15th February 2002 12:47

5 days is VERY impressive. after like 3 days you are supposed to start having hallucinations and stuff.

Curi0us_George 15th February 2002 13:17

I'd recommend that you not drink alcohol. I would recommend that you drink more water than you normally would, though. Also eat small, frequent, light meals. Don't eat anything really heavy, or really starchy. Too heavy will make you tired insantly. Too starchy will raise your blood sugar, which will keep you away for a while, but then it will fade, and you'll be worse off than if you ate a heavy meal. It takes a toll on your body.

Find ways to keep occupied, as was suggested, but don't stick to one activity for too long. Staring at a television will make you tired after a while. Get up and go for a walk every so often. The fresh air and excercise will help wake you up.

Also . . . why are you doing this?

Pie, I've slept for over 24 hours before, and I'd only been up for about 36. :D

. - .... .- -. .... 15th February 2002 13:43

stayed awake once for almost 100 hours (just over four days) during college when I had exams. Nearly passed out walking home afterwards though. As far as I know if you forcibly stay awake for more than five days you can slip into a coma.

stttafffy 15th February 2002 14:04

i dont think ill goto te pint of being comatose! its 10:00- do you know where your children are?
10 am, gonna go to class. ill be back later~~

missyob 15th February 2002 14:14

I do the 48 hours no sleep thing once a month when I drive to New York.

It sucks.

Do the things they told you above. Without any drugs ie: caffeine, speed, coke, ect. - You should start to hallucinate after 50 hours.

I dont know why anyone would really want to do this though. When you do sleep, it will be for a long time.

Spiffed 15th February 2002 17:05

well, it's only 1pm now, so it's only been 4hrs of uptime.
But i intend to pull this off without caffine just because i swore i wouldn't keep drinking the stuff a couple months ago, and i'd hate to break that now

papadoc 15th February 2002 17:16

This little excursion into sleep deprivation
is quite amusing.
I'm laughing...
Brings back thoughts of yesterday...
Better no go there though...
I'll start missing it...

Huehuetenango 15th February 2002 17:17

are you sure this is healthy?
a few nights ago i was up the entire night b/c of the flu
the next day i stayed home i felt so out of it (i was walking into walls, and stuff)
at one point i had to get some essays written on my computer, i went to turn it on, fell over backwards, hit my head and either fell asleep or unconscious for two hours (i'm still not sure which, all i know is my mom walked in and said i was lying on the floor)

lil vixen 15th February 2002 17:21

I once did the 48 hour thing when driving to the West Country to pick up friends and then travelling into the depths of Europe. A car full of guys talking, eating, and drinking in an attempt to keep eachother awake (well, mainly trying to keep me awake as I was driving)

In the end they all fell asleep (including my driver's mate) so after a couple of hours I gave in too and pulled over to sleep (probably very wise).

I was up awake for about 70 hours straight once, that was my freshmen year in marching band. It was on our band trip to Disney in Florida. Started off with an 18 hour road trip there by bus, then no one in my room slept for about the next two days! We wre at amusement parks all day and were up playing video games all night, it was a blast! Of course we accidentally slept through the next day and night, and scared all of the band parents. They didn't realize we hadn't gone to the park and thought we had been left there, but finally they checked our room and found us, boy were they mad though! We just laughed our asses off!:D ;)

stttafffy 15th February 2002 19:04

You could always post poetry on the Artistic thread around here. I do that, and enjoy reading others poems, there is some really good stuff on there.:)

Don't do that... squinting at the monitor will tire your eyes, and make you sleepy.

No Name 15th February 2002 20:57

40 something hours. done it a couple times.

i spent much of it surfing and watching dvds.

I must be getting bored lately cause the last few nights im out before midnight and 10 minutes on the net bores the crap outta me.

Spiffed 15th February 2002 20:57

not so true, the bright light from the monitor actually helps to keep you awake, your brain is sure it's daytime (just makesure you keep background lights on too)

Yes, true, if you are looking at large monotone areas with a lot of contrast, such as a blank document in Notepad. But if you are working on cursors, your eyes have to concentrate more, and will get tired more easily.

Spiffed 15th February 2002 21:03

Perhaps yes, but it's still better then reading a book. My suggestion, go play a FPS game, or watch TV.

Merlin 15th February 2002 21:06

I'm sorry, but I just don't see any point in staying awake for so long.
