" it just says there is not enough disk space free on " . " what is " . " ??? i have a C:\ drive,a D:\ drive,an E:\ drive,and an A:\ drive....but i sure as heel don`t have a " . " drive. and "-1" bytes of space? what the hell is this? someone please help me. and do not say rebott,because i`ve tried that at least 4 times already and still no avail. i am begging you,help me.

Virus

Trista 21st February 2002 05:56

Which expansions did you get, because you have to install them in a certain order. I dunno if that has anything to do with it. It goes:
The sims
Livin Large
House Party
Hot date

whiteflip 21st February 2002 06:48

my sister has the sims and hot date only. no house party or livin large

any hoot, viral scan, unistall crap. install with nothing else loaded (ctrl+alt+delete everything runnin without legs)

i wish i had -1byte of free space. more than i got now.

Magic_Midget 21st February 2002 07:19

ugh.....sims..so...gh3y....:P

Vie 21st February 2002 10:13

sounds like a Virus to me, but I'm no expert

s1138 21st February 2002 10:16

if your installing more than one expansion pack, you should install them in order. (as said above) you dont have to install all three.

Montana 21st February 2002 11:35

you have to first install livin large, then install house party and then install hot date

Matt 21st February 2002 11:48

I know the problem. I posted in some Sims forum and got an answer. I got it with Livin Large. Thought it happened because it was a 'copied' version, but you say you have an original?

Anyway I can't remember now and I don't have time to look at the moment. I'll go find it later.

It's just a small change to the registry. can't remember at the moment. Something like changing a . to 'c:\'.

Matt 21st February 2002 15:05

After using a ripped version of The Sims my reg looked like this - (there are more entries, these are the only ones you need.)

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Maxis\The Sims]
"SIMS_MUSIC"=".\\Music\\"
"SIMS_SOUND"=".\\SoundData"
"SIMS_DATA"=".\\"
"InstallPath"=".\\"

Alter them to the path you installed The Sims. For example -

"InstallPath"="c:\\The Sims"
"SIMS_MUSIC"="c:\\The Sims\\Music\\"

something like that anyway.

Change them all. After doing that and trying a copy of the Living Large CD, it installed. I would guess Hot Date is the same.

If they are original, then as said already try installing them in the correct order. If the above didn't work, go to Maxis's site. I hear they have a registry fixing utility.

Hey, don't diss the sims! It's the most fun in the world to make them piss themselves, make out in public, faint, kill each other, puke, etc, etc, etc…

Curi0us_George 21st February 2002 23:15

. . . place furniture around them and let the starve to death. . .

:)

NRen2k5 21st February 2002 23:18

A friend of my sister's had a woman sim with which she married a man sim and took his house, car, etc., and put up a wall in his own house near where he was standing to make him starve to death.

BTW, funny to have a party and fubar all the toilets. Nothing funnier than a room full of people soiling themselves.

Maxis' install programs have always been dodgy. I installed SimCity2000 on my P200 w/32Mb RAM, and the install program told me
Quote:

SimCity2000 requires 4096K RAM. The installer has detected -32768K. You may install the game, but it may not run until you install at least 4096K RAM.
Uh... right. -32MB? Why isn't there a check for negative amounts of memory?
The game worked fine, incidentally. It even works on my C650 laptop.

PhotoFx 22nd February 2002 01:01

i never did see the point of Sim City 3000..... seem like pretty much a graphics update, and not really taht impressive of one.... when they actually make it 3D, i'll think about it.

theaftershock 22nd February 2002 02:05

i only liked the oringinal The Sims, not living fat, not wh0re party, and not frozen date.

henry3k56 22nd February 2002 02:09

I have The Sims, and SimCity3000. I could still never be able to beat the game, or make money without doing cheat codes.;)

i`m really not a computer person,and i know this is just basic stuff,but could you please tell me exactly what to do? i think i`m prety good on it for only having a comp for about half a year now, but i still need a few pointers on registry and dos.

i am not worthy... :D

thank god someone else has the same problem as me for once. :rolleyes:

insomniac 22nd February 2002 02:46

oh,and btw...

my "The Sims" is a warez,but all these others are legitimate cds. and yes,i put "The Sims" in C:\Program Files\Maxis\

There's more to SC3k than pretty graphics. You have more control of the economics of your city on a macro scale, improved architecture toolkit, waaaaay better terrain editing, more detailed transportation and public services systems... the list goes on. Basically, more control.

Start -> Run -> regedit -> F3 -> check "key" and uncheck everything else -> Type in "[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Maxis\The Sims]" and hit enter -> Now fill in the various entries with the ones Matt gave you

insomniac 22nd February 2002 03:34

ok,Matt,thank you for all of your help,but i think it might be a good idea just to copy the information thats in your sims registry file onto here and just let me copy that off. i`ve tried experimenting around but still no luck. :(

Matt 22nd February 2002 16:52

code:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Maxis]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Maxis\The Sims]
"SIMS_SKU"=dword:00000001
"SIMS_LANGUAGE"="USEnglish"
"SIMS_MUSIC"="c:\\The Sims\\Music\\"
"SIMS_SOUND"="c:\\The Sims\\SoundData"
"SIMS_DATA"="c:\\The Sims\\GameData"
"InstallPath"="c:\\The Sims\\"
"Version"="1.0"
"Language"=dword:00000409
"BetaSite"=dword:00000001
"Installed"="1"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Maxis\The Sims\1.00.001]

I exported this from the registry. I can't attach reg files so you'll have to copy the above and save it to a reg file. 'sims.reg' or something. Then alter it as described below.

You say you installed game to C:\Program Files\Maxis so you'll have to replace all the c:\\The Sims\\.

Something like this (Assuming you installed to c:\Program Files\Maxis\The Sims)-

code:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Maxis]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Maxis\The Sims]
"SIMS_SKU"=dword:00000001
"SIMS_LANGUAGE"="USEnglish"
"SIMS_MUSIC"="c:\\Program Files\\Maxis\\The Sims\\Music\\"
"SIMS_SOUND"="c:\\Program Files\\Maxis\\The Sims\\SoundData"
"SIMS_DATA"="c:\\Program Files\\Maxis\\The Sims\\GameData"
"InstallPath"="c:\\Program Files\\Maxis\\The Sims\\"
"Version"="1.0"
"Language"=dword:00000409
"BetaSite"=dword:00000001
"Installed"="1"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Maxis\The Sims\1.00.001]

Anyway, once the file is saved double click it in explorer to add the info to the registry.

insomniac 23rd February 2002 02:04

ok,by now i`ve installed Livin` Large and House Party,but when i start up the sims,it brings up the House Party screen,but then i get a Fatal error message saying that it could not find the Sims data directory. any suggestions? :confused:

Matt 23rd February 2002 02:17

I don't know. My original reg file had "SIMS_DATA"=".\\" so try removing the gamedata bit.

"SIMS_DATA"="c:\\Program Files\\Maxis\\The Sims\\
