Ok is it just me or did Mr Jones just go a little power crazy. I saw one post where he/she said to close a topic to Rocker and then he/she wanted to "toast" a user and closed the topic.

Now normally this wouldn't be that bad but in the SAME DAY!

I would like to see if this post is closed and if I recieved a warning or something in the email. Sorry but I am against forceful use of moderatoring powers.

Well as far as them not having relevance I don't believe that is true. He made a joke about Winamp3. Like the toast joke... So are we not allowed to have humor in these forums Jones?

I do agree there are a lot of useless and pointless posts but I don't believe that that was one of them. I would really appreciate it if you suck it up like a man and instead of bitching about this further just take it as constructive criticism of the way you moderate and that you be a little more careful in the future.

This forum is for discussion about Winamp3. These are the most "moderated" of the forums, and, honestly, with good reason. Look at how bad the Shoutcast forums were for long, long time. Those two threads were devoid of value. It's one thing to add a piece of humor to an ongoing discussion, but both of those posts did nothing at all for Winamp. Maybe they should have been moved to GD, but I'm not going to argue with that decision. Let the thread starters argue for their threads.

Well, he didn't bitch about it. You did. In full public view. I find that comment rather nasty. And he offered you the opportunity to further discuss it with him in PM. Which is where it should have started.

I'd like to suggest that this thread be locked or at least moved, as it also has no relevence to Winamp3. Let it live in General Discussion, if it must.

there has since been conversation backstage about heavy handed tactics in use on these forums.

I have been quoted before as saying that these forums are indeed the most "moderated". Look at it as unofficial rules.

Everybody sees no problem with locking n00b threads that are completely offtopic, and frankly, non-n00bs should know better.

Its not a personal attack against people, its just the rules laid out in these forums (wa3).

We need to keep things on-topic here, otherwise we just get inundated very quickly.

And, as has been pointed out. There is GD for ANY topic you feel you need to speak about.

then if its offtopic, not pertaining to winamp 3, move it. yes, there is a move feature that redirects to the new copy.

the forums are meant to be a fun place. you'll never get that if you want to put a vice grip on everything. let things slide.

P'raps there wouldn't be so many pointless threads if people weren't "ranked" by the number of posts that they have made.

But then again, I'm not complaining, doesn't bother me...

For most n00bs (and postpumpers) postcount does matters, but for non-noobs they don't. I did care a bit about my postcount until I reached 100 or so. But then again, I don't think an user with 4593 (just a random number) is better than an user with 1 post.

A better system (definitely not perfect) than checking posts, is checking the registration date. This tells you more of who is and isn't a post pumper.

This will help but you have to consider the fact time here and in this forum doesn't judge how smart you are or how much you know about winamp. A lot of people will make their first post even though they have used Winamp since the 1.x

So what have we learned? Just read the posts the person and then decide who is the newb and who is the genious :)

Maybe if he have made a bug report somelong time ago, and then decided to come back ;)

their is only minor descrimination in these forums against newbies..perticularly the dumb ones(if your not stupid...then your safe).

if a mod/forum king posted BETA 3 BUILD 466 right now....the thread would be closed as soon as I saw it.

everyone was a noob once...this is how it should be...telling the newbies whats wrong or right is the job for senior members.

this usually churns out better members in the long run...who know what their talking about.

I've once been told on my first skin : You suck and other comments like : Woah a baby can do that in 5 min...

I nearly left the forums again... :(
