New Design Skin - Visional Memory
 

All design. :D All in Paint, again, I'm really proud of this one. Need some criticism though.

The orange strip represents the memory that stands out.

Suggestions?

The barcode style really looks good....

Suggestion: the volume/balance sliders could be made like barcodes too and getting theyre getting scanned with a laser when they move....if it'd be possible to draw all that in such a small space...

I'm too lazy to do that. :D

Problem: I'm not sure if I should keep the application buttons that way. Would they look better smaller, and 2-D like the rest of the skin, not beveled?

I think you should un bevel the app buttons and make them the same orange as the "memory that stands out" :) or maybe a couple of shades lighter:up:

I think they should be the same colour as the app buttons, i checked it out with orange, it looks alright but light grey works better with the theme of the skin, the same colour as the cbuttons might work :)

Really, I want the strip to be the only thing that stands out. That's why it's called Visional Memory.

What does the strip remind you of? Anything in your life?

no it doesn't remind me of anything specific, but the eye is strangly drawn to the orange strip, infact it is the only thing i keep looking at on your SS :)

Very detailed abstract piece of work here. That orange bar keeps drawing me in and I'msupposed to be doing my history coursework. I don'tlike the eq bars, the vol/bal bars or the credits ('?') button. Surely you could think of a nice logotoput instead of the '?' - perhaps some greyscale eyes.

I don't like the EQ, Volume, Balance bars either. What should I do with them?

Yeah it's a joke. I do know about lost sigs and avatars lol :D Anyway, all my past sigsand avatars are in my misc/sigs folder on my HDD and webspace.

I'm going to bed now. I'll think up some more ideas for bars tomorrow. Good night all.

you could add more bars to them, horizontal or vertical :)

Well, for the EQ bars, I was thinking something like this..

Then when the EQ bars were scrolled up or down, the bars would move, one pixel at a time, up a few seconds, down, then up again.

this skin is exactly the sort of skin I would go for. really cool lookin! :p maybe you could change the eq bars to just blocks of grey? I dunno, I think it would look pretty cool. I luv the barcode! and the orange bit too...maybe you could use the orange in the eq? (jus in case you run out of colours thats all)

not really. You could remove a part (or the whole) of them, but then you won't have any bars at all...

A'ight, I think I'm going to use the moving bars EQ bars. And I've changed the Vol/Bal bars too to just simple blocks, as Caz suggested..

I was going to put orange in the EQ, but then I thought I wanted the orange bar to be the one thing that was coloured. Kinda like one of those flashback videos, where only a few things are coloured, and the rest are grey. The things that were coloured had a significance, like the first car someone once had, or someone's favourite sweater.

Well, that's what I wanted to. An urban memory. The neon sign of a store you always used to go to, and the sign was orange. That's what I'm trying to achieve here.

Gee. I don't even know why I put those barcodes in there. :eek: I guess because I just wanted it to look trendy and urban.

Actually, my inspriation for this came from a Vis Preset called Early Doctor Who by Zen-X. It looks grungy, kinda. :D

I think that the EQ bars are perfect for this skin, any other colour or type of bar would make you lose interest in the orange, and i am definatly gonna D/L this skin :up: :)

If you know how to read barcodes you could use it for your name, creation date and stuff like that, it could be a good touch to the finished skin.:weird:

I don't know how to read barcodes, because there aren't even the right amount of numbers that are in a barcode, but people get the idea.

Plus, in a barcode, the coded bars are always the same length, though not always the same width.

Well ur 'mutant' barcodes look better anyways...:D

Plain lines that are the same length with varying width would look boring...

i think the code isn't too difficult... (much like binary :p)


If you wanna generate a meaningful barcode, a barcode-generator comes with corel draw. I think I have it installed here. So in case you want one.. :D :)

About the PL, how can I make it look not so repetitive? This skin has a lot of variety, and the horizontal (left/right) and vertical stretch bars are repetitive.

What should I do?

Thats a tough one....on the left and right sides if you were to use vertical lines then that would look kinda weird, while horizontal lines might look ok, try flipping the tops of the eq sliders over 90 degrees and use them and see how that works...the titlebar of the playlist and minibrowser could be like the main, with a barcode in the middle...and rectangular boxes...tho they would get kinda huge if it was stretched out....

Alrighty, I think I got an idea of what I'm going to do..

The stretch bars look alright... :igor:

Playlist looks great considering that it has to be scaleable...the left side is a little plain compared to the rest, but its not that bad...

Overall it fits in quite well with the rest of the skin..:D
