sound problem
I just upgraded my laptop to W2K. Now when I play mp3's with Winamp or Windows media player (just to test my problem), there is a strange sound in all of them, not a crackle or pop, but a duh-duh-duh-da noise randomly on whatever track I play. My technician here is stumped. Anyone know what this noise is and how do I fix it? I have already upgraded my Windows media player to test that and the sound is still there. It is not the MP3's because I have listened to ones that were burned to CD over 2 years ago that I know are problem-free. HELP! I have checked the FAQ but this noise is not a crackle or static noise and is not limited to Winamp.

re:sound problem
Oh yeah - the laptop is a Toshiba Satellite Pro 4260 PIII 450, 128MB, S3 Savage/IX™ 3D Accelerator 128 bit, Win2K (let me know if you need more info on my system).

If you are getting the same problems with Media Player then the problem isn't with Winamp itself. My first suggestion would be to upgrade your soundcard drivers, from the manufacturers homepage, and your directx version.
Install Peter's Winamp2 Update Patch, restart Winamp and see if there is any improvement. Also, in Winamp, you could try the directsound output plugin (CTRL-P -> plugins -> output -> Nullsoft Directsound Plugin) and see if it improves anything. |
Thanks for trying to help. Peter's Winamp2 update patch had errors throughout the entire install so that wouldn't work. Updated the sound card drivers and directx and that didn't work either. I am really really stuck!! I haven't been able to listen to music for 3 days now and I'm going batty!!

The same thing just happened to me. A friend toggled the track length bar really quicky forward and it froze my winamp. It wouldn't shut down so we did it manually using the Windows task manager. Upon re-opening, there was no sound to be heard from any of my mp3's or mpeg video's, but actual CD's play fine. Does anyone know why this would happen and how this could be fixed?
Thanks in advance!!! |

Make sure Winamp is fully closed before installing the official wa2update @ Trancer-X RE: Winamp keeps turning my volume up/down http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=32675 http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=73354 |
It's not that. There's no volume at all.

I just went through every step of Windows XP's troubleshooting guide and still have yet to find what could be wrong. As I said, my CD's are playing fine through Winamp, it's just my mp3's that aren't audible (yet they still play.)
I'm perplexed and almost devoid of tunes... this sucks!!! :( |
