The 50's - Today ~ How times have changed

I came across this article from Good Housekeeping Magazine from the 1950's.

Read the article carefully. This is how women were instructed to treat their husbands.

How times have changed!

That's disturbing. I can't imagine a world where women actually acted that way. I really can't. Don't want to, either. It certainly shows alot of change, doesn't it...

thank god for change!

Aeroe 29th March 2002 22:34

hullo Missy, have you been a little gay as well for your man?

apollos 29th March 2002 22:37

OMG! Where people really this shallow?? Im glad things have changed. Everything back then seemed so fake and women were men's butt monkeys!

Uh Whats so different???? No just jokes, that is some messed up stuff though. I would never be able to love someone that waited on me hand and foot. I'd have a hard time respecting them too. 50/50 is the way ANY relationship should be, that proves respect.

Just my opinion though!;)

I just cant believe this was printed in a magazine. It was the way women were really expected to behave in this manner.

I may be starting a little controvercy here, but I believe that the man should be head of household, but a woman should not be a slave to her man. That article points out the worthlessness of women. I found it very degrading.

Equality! Thats what we want! It would be bad to see the scales tip the other way or back to the male superiority way aswell! People who thin they are superior because they are male / female really piss me off!

It shows that we, as men or possibly government, have matured from sheer idiocy.

Im not sure if the world has become mature. In my opinion lost of people are alot more immature. I agree that society is less sexist but things such as homophobeia, racism, xenophobia are still very common.

I second that. I feel people are still inmature of anything and everything. Although there are changes, but it is not enough!!!

in another light, it does make things a lot simpler

i read in a magazine that back then the average housewife did 36 hours of housework work a week. now its down to 8-12. the men picked up a little time but not enought to make a difference.

ElChevelle 30th March 2002 12:25

I say equality in the household......
that also means women need to get on top more often:eek: ;)

"Be a little gay and a little more interesting for him" :igor:

That has a certain appeal......

randman 30th March 2002 13:29

Following those two posts, and I'm the "Dirty Ol' Loser"??? ;-)

Whoa! That's scary. Thankfully some of this improved over the next decade. People can bad mouth the sixties, but a lot of the changes back then were for the better.

Bilbo Baggins 30th March 2002 13:34

Holy Blancmange! If i expected my girlfriend to treat me like that, Iwould be out on my ear!!!

binary hero 30th March 2002 13:49

what gets me is how people could think like that in the first place, even if it was 47 years ago.

[sarcasm]yes. women are lower life forms. they always have been, they always will be. of course us men can survive without them.[/sarcasm]

When I get married or have a girlfriend I'll treat her as a queen(the way women should be treated!) She does NOT have to be a slave to anyone!

No Name 30th March 2002 17:19

of course this crap was printed, along with other crap throughout US history. Then again, loads of shit have been kept out of US History books.

Its no surprise. Read s'more.

Yes, I'd like to see how long that'll last. :p
But what if she didn't like to be treated like a queen? Just wants to do things just like you, and treated a little better than normal? Depends on whether she wants to be partly independent, and team effort instead of you doing all the work for her...
