need an opinon on a new project
 

just started this skin, figured I could do another Star Wars episode 2 skin before the movie comes out.

anywho I was trying to go for a bit of a retro look, and personally I think it looks okay so far but my last star wars skin had some mixed reviews so I though I'd better run it by some experts first.

what do you think should I continue or start over again?

Looks good so far, the shadows of the charachters are maybe a little too deep though..

one little thing: you'll have the song title running right across the guy's face. other than that it looks good. you'll make those corners transparent right?

hm... i think its too early for me to judge, please post back when you got a bit more completed, id love to see how it turns out :up:

thanx for the feedback I'll definetly continue now, this was just a early preview to see if anybody liked the general feel of the skin, I will move the guy around so he's placed better.

you really think I should go with transperancies in the corners? I've never really liked transperancies, cause if you use em wrong they can ruin a skin, there are only a few skins with transparancies that I like. maybe I'll give it a go, i'll have to think about that

And from what I've heard this movie is gonna kick so much ass it'll hurt.

Try it with the corners transparent....no app buttons = cool, ive done it...:p

think you're both right about the shadows, they look a lot darker on this compu at school then they did at my own compu. anywho I can't work on it till thursday, till I get back to my rents home, so that's a bit of a pain.

The shadows arent too bad, but might look better if they were a couple of pixels smaller, and a few shades lighter.

The transparency thing wont go down too well with newbies though, they wont be able to close/minimise without learning keyboard shortcuts or changing skins...

Transparency has to be used correctly to look good, i think you should just do your best to fit in some buttons. Im sure it can be done :)

I started a skin a few weeks ago that had the top section transparent...it looked much better with no app buttons, and i think the same would go for this skin, making the cutout would be a waste if it was filled by buttons..this should still be a cool skin with or without the transparent sections though.

I agree...I think looks kinda wierd...like the second blue line (for bitrate etc) is behind the charachters, with cutouts for the shadows...and the track info is in front...doesnt seem to fit right to me.

guess I could make em both smaller, but the girl looks perfect to me, but I guess it does still look a bit iffy

It looks nice. I think it would be better if all blue/orange lines went behind the characters and in front of the in front of the shadows, like the posbar. There's something more I don't like: the continuity from main to equalizer, this forces you to have the eq active and under the main (I usually have the eq at left, main at right and pl, double sized, under both), but many skins (most skinner.exe) have this 'flaw'.

I agree jellby, but i dont see it as a flaw, its up to the user to decide where they wish to place the seperate windows.

It would be impossible to please everyone regarding where the pictures are related to the placement of the windows, but i think that since the screenshot at winamp.com shows main on top of eq on top of pl etc. that this is the most popular way to place the windows. But i always try to make sure the pl/minibrowser fit ok in other possitions.

I didn't mean it is a real flaw, but drawback according to my taste. I don't think I will use a skin that forces such a placement, I prefer skins in which the different windows are independent, but with a common theme.

guess your right jellby, it's a bit of a drawback, same reason why I wouldn't download a skin with the EQ on top, but when your making a picture skin you have to put the picture in somewhere, and that sometimes means that you either have a tiny pic or a pic that is placed on both the main and the eq window. And IMHO most picture skins look better that way cause they look unified

The shuff/rep looks a bit out of place...like it needs a shadow too, but its looking great otherwise.

can't really do much about the shuffrep, really want it in the skin, but it only shows up whn activated, it's more so you can see if it's on or off, then an actual button

That's not fair! with that skin it is far easier to draw the playlist tiles! :p

About the shuffle/repeat, you could try to have the cbuttons-shuf/rep bar to cast shadows on the figures (although then it would seem strange that it doesn't cast shadows on the white background...). The idea of showing the buttons only when active is good, but then you should give the suffle button a better button-look. And I insist: I would like it better if all the blue and orange bars went between the figures and the shadows

I like to keep the playlist simple and keep all the action in the main/EQ windows, much easier to skin too.

anywho, I think I'll keep the shuffrep like this, there's really no good way to get it right, at least not that I know. my main concern is the pic, don't want to screw it up by covering it with anything that takes too much attention from it.

as for the bars, I'm sorry, I've played with em, juggled em around, but this looks the best IMHO, gives it a bit of depth, so I think I'll keep em like this

But i think the numbers are too bright, maybe make the border thicker

I like how the playlist is going tough guy, i guess your right about the shuff/rep, theres not much that could be done.

the numbers are actually just a temp, I stole them from my ali larter skin, and havn't gotten around making some proper ones, I don't really like the numbers.

as for the eq level line, you mean cropping the eqmain 1 pixel? or cropping it just below the sliders?

did some work on the playlist, not much, I like the idea of the heads, but I don't like how they turned out, maybe if I can find some better pictures.

also need to find something for the top of the playlist and minbrowser, looks a bit empty

How about light sabers for the tops of the pl and mb...might look ok...

The pl looks fine just the way it is IMO.The mb requires somethin though.

Cant say i see anything missing...Looks great Tough Guy. Ballance is a little hard to use tho...but it would have looked weird had you included it.
