Possible Win XP bug
 

As we all know, one can go into the (A)dd files tab on the playlist editor or by clicking on the "eject" button on winamp and press shift or crtl to select multiple files, but I have noticed since I have recieved Windows XP there is an unusual bug that keeps occurring.

It will only post 684 songs into the playlist. If you attempt to slect more than that, it seems to randomly choose from the remaining stock of files left. After it posts the songs, I have found that the extension ".mp3" is somewhat quickly being removed from the lists of songs and the time length for each song is being displayed. When you attempt to cycle through the songs, the time length vanishes and winamp attempts to reupdate the time frames.

This bug did not occur in Winamp ver.2.72, as the system was running Win98 and I don't think it occurs in 2.79, but I have to have the opportunity to find out.

I would greatly appreciate any info on what this could be. I am assuming bug at this point.

Why do you want to run more than 684 songs thats one VERY long playlist!

its not winXP...

i am runnng winXP and my playlist is over 1300 songs...and this error doesnt occur..

i asked around and talked to a few of my buddies who also are running winXP...they are using winamp with a playlist of over 10 000 songs and they do not encounter the problem..

also i tried this with my winamp 2.78 and winamp 3 beta and did not encounter the problem at all..'

i would just download a diff version of winamp...and try that..

First problem:
Possible WinXP bug?
Limitation with # of files which can be added via Open Files Common Dialog?
To add full dir, use Add -> Dir instead, then remove unwanted titles after.

This does NOT happen in Win9x/ME so I can't reproduce it.
Microsoft would have to pay me to install Win2k/XP
and I don't care what anyone says here :p :D
Last thing we need is a bloatware OS which thinks it can do EVERYTHING for you without installing any other sofware, LOL

Second problem:
Prefs -> Options -> Read Titles on "Load"
(sounds like you've got it set to "Display")

That's assuming you want Wiinamp to display ID3 tags in the first place?
If you just want filename.ext only, then disable ID3 tags in:
Prefs -> Input -> in_mp3.dll -> config -> Title tab

And 2000 songs mean i never have to do anything but hit play....I cant just sit back and let winamp play and never hear the same song twice in a week...

That sounds like a winamp rpoblem, or possibly just a bad installation, or corrupted file.

Yeah, it could be just one (or more) corrupted files in the dir causing the problem (giving Winamp a hard time trying to read it/them).
Test the dir with MP3Utility

Would have gone further but i doubt i'd ever need more than 50,000 songs on a playlist...

Many thanx to all who replied to my problem. My life revolves around music and its ever constantly changing scope. To all of you, you have my many thanx and to those who created winamp as well.

i found an actual bug in xp! use the silver desktop theme that comes with xp and hover the mouse over the start button. the upper right hand corner pixel of the button will turn red.

Not really, I have 1 playlist with my entire mp3 collection in it (over 10,000 songs). It's really handy to just leave it playing through on shuffle, or open that playlist and hit 'j' whenever I'm looking for a particular song or artist. When I tell Winamp 2.79 to open my main mp3 folder recursively, it gets all the files no problem in less than a minute, and it opens an m3u file containg this list in less than a second. The songs are all sorted into folders by artist however, so I don't have anything like 600 mp3 in any one folder.
I'm using XP too btw. It sounds like maybe this problem occurs when all the files are in the same folder.
