New skin - Akashi

Started this with a bit of help from JasonL... Thanks!

Based off the design of my cellphone...

Not too far, yet, even though I worked on it for a long time.

Suggestions and comments appreciated!

I need to work on the grey sides and the POSBAR... no ideas, though.

nøva 22nd April 2002 01:19

Very nice, C buttons are fuckin sweet...
But one thing, i think that LCD style is being abit overused... but i guess ur cell mite have it.
It works great with the skin, its just its not too original anymore...

Good luck finishing up

Atmo 22nd April 2002 01:20

Ooooh....looks nice so far...

I think you should try out psp or photoshop soon cleanup, your skins are resembeling the style of them using mspaint...

I think your stuff would seriously kick ass if you moved to one of those progs..

nøva 22nd April 2002 01:22

Yeah, mite take some time to learn tho... But it sure would speed things up with all them great tools!

Cleanup 22nd April 2002 01:56

I'm not sure if I'll ever go to Photoshop, even though I already have it...

nøva 22nd April 2002 01:59

It is rather hard to go from MSpaint to Photoshop... i had to use both for a while.. Photoshop is much better tho... you should really try it.

Atmo 22nd April 2002 02:07

I agree with nova, It depends on what you'll do with it.

Maybe start your next skin in ps and see how you go...I mean spend a few weeks learning how to use its functions and make a skin along the way...once you've learned layers you'll never go back..:)

_Blackdog_ 22nd April 2002 02:47

i went from paint to psp fairly easily. i've only been using psp since last fall.
btw- those buttons are sweet

dimichan 22nd April 2002 08:09

NICE buttons...
And I learned, well, still on the learning curve, PS without a manual, by the "seat of your pants" method ;) and if I can do it, anyone can :D if you have PS 6 download the 6.0.1 patch from download.com though, some minor bug fixes.

simon snowflake 22nd April 2002 08:28

Every time I'm amazed of what you can make in PAINT. so F#cking sweet.

Same here except in my case it was PS.

Cleanup: great buttons. But whats with the name??Is that the name of your cellphone??IIRC Akashi is Indian for sky.

Cleanup 22nd April 2002 12:04

Akashi is the name of a bridge in Japan as well...

About the buttons: Jason L made them! And I edited them a bit in Paint. Give him the credit. :D I made some darker, more rubbery buttons in Paint, then he made those for me, which I replaced the rubbery buttons with.

He also helped me with the Akashi logo. It's to be in the font the Nokia logo is in. First, I made the Akashi logo by hand by copying/pasting a few things. Then JasonL found that he had the font so he typed it out for me. Thanks again, Jason. :)

Off to school now... it's eight am here...

bobo 22nd April 2002 17:36

id say it's easier doing skins like u make them in paint, in photoshop. what u can do in paint u can do in ps too, often easier. you skins would rule so much if u'd use a better prog. nice skin btw, lol :)

Cleanup 22nd April 2002 22:27

Small update. I made some new buttons (In Photoshop! Hehehe! :D) that fit better with the style my cellphone uses. I did some other stuff in Photoshop, and I'm going to put a gradient on the white parts... pardon the messed-up looking parts. Working in Paint on a detailed skin like this is messy.

Whoops. Forgot SS.

Atmo 22nd April 2002 22:33

Looking good..

Good to see youre trying new things...

_Blackdog_ 22nd April 2002 22:38

like the skin, hate the name

Cleanup 22nd April 2002 22:47

Wwhhhyyyy, BlackDog??? :weird:

_Blackdog_ 22nd April 2002 23:04

its just the whole trendy japanese thing. giving a skin a japanese name cuz it features or was inspired by japination is one thing. randomly naming a skin a japanese name is, in my opinion, trendy and stupid.
but dont take my comments too seriously. i'm only one person, and people download skins based on looks, not names.

Cleanup 22nd April 2002 23:05

.... I'm basing this off my Nokia cellphone. Nokia is Japanese.

_Blackdog_ 22nd April 2002 23:38

nokia is finnish

Cleanup 23rd April 2002 00:27

[Insert embarrassed and pissed-at-himself smiley here]

Oh. :D

_Blackdog_ 23rd April 2002 00:50

nokia sure does sound like japanese.

dollerspark 23rd April 2002 03:22

I also am not fond of the Japanese craze, but on another note, Cleanup, name it what you will. You're the one whose brain this great looking skin is coming from, so you know best a fitting title.

But like I was saying, great looking skin. I, too, am working on an LCD skin (don't throw stuff yet people) but I believe yours has put me to shame :o

KiwiFreak 23rd April 2002 04:02

Skinning....in my opion is the best way to teach yourself PS. The way I see it is, if there's something you want to do...someone else has probably already wanted to do it as well, so it's more than likely that the programmers have already thought of it and added it in...do a help search and bob's ya uncle:D

Not sure about the POSBAR. I made it in Paint and it looks... bleh. I think I might re-do it in Photoshop and just add a dropshadow.

Any thoughts?

I don't like the symbols on the C-Buttons... and I have to fix up the SHUF/REP buttons. I accidently put a dropshadow on that thing.

PeaceMaker 23rd April 2002 12:29

where did u cut the buttons from?

Nini 23rd April 2002 13:16

looking great, cleanup
About the name.. i don't mind japanese names... and akashi goes well with the look of this skin somehow... ;)

Atmo 23rd April 2002 15:26

The symbols on the cbuttons look ok, maybe better black instead of white.

Um... at first I tried using the buttons from a screenshot, but they didn't look right, so I copied the shape and made my own...

skinme! 23rd April 2002 20:06

As a general skin, this ain't bad. but for your standard it's a bit rough and the cbuttons aren't well integrated. This'd do with some PS love.

NOKIA... japanese. Hehe. I don't like the whole mobile technology trend but that's a personal choice. Akashi is a great name.

I don't like your LCD - it's very un-NOKIA. And also clichéd.

Don't get me wrong - this is a nice skin. Just has a lot more potential.

Cleanup 23rd April 2002 20:17

'Un-NOKIA'? Explain. :p

? suggestion.

Cleanup 25th April 2002 20:43

I probably won't be finishing Akashi, JasonL. You can finish it, if you'd like.

skinme! 25th April 2002 21:16

Well it's a pretty standard LCD for you. NOKIA tends to have a different style to it's LCDs - less lines more blocks. You understand?

skinme! 25th April 2002 21:22

Where did you get that NOKIA font from? I'd like to use it in a (WA3) skin and I want to ask permission.

jasonl 27th April 2002 15:43

I can't finish it, Cleanup. I am far too busy. It is a waste though, I thought this one was something to brag about ;)?

ryan 27th March 2003 23:36

I've asked Cleanup if I could take up finishing this skin, he said I could, But all he had was the screenshot. So I'll have to do a lot of cut and paste :D... Hopefully I'll get somthing done.

I have a question though. Does the image i posted below go in cbuttons.bmp or the main.bmp? Or is it another one.
