The cbuttons are two rectangular. I want flowing shapes, and I want them now. Or at least variations in the buttons. Yes.

Nini 7th May 2002 17:12

lookin' good, dude :D

But there are a few things that i don't like.. but you should do whatever you like best..

 • The eq sliders should be yellow.... that buttons on the eq bars

 • That is harder to explain for me.. i don't like the labels of the buttons.. they look too much like stickers. Could you make them look like they're inside?

Also I wonder how the timde display would look with a blue BG... :D

But I don't have a problem with the rectangular shape of the buttons.. you can't have everything in a skin ;)

Atmo 7th May 2002 17:29

Skinme: I might change the shuff/rep and eq/pl buttons in the main. But i like the shapes of the cbuttons, plus they took ages to make..

Nini: Good idea with the labels, im workin on it. I tried a simiar blue to the eq sliders for the vis and it just didnt look right.

dam 7th May 2002 18:05

I like those rectangular buttons.Looks like they took forever to do.

So whats left?

Atmo 7th May 2002 18:30

The cbuttons are actually pretty simple. It just too forever to put em together and get em to look right...could redo em in about 10 mins if i needed to...

Just started out with a gradient, the labells are actually solid white with drop shadows layer blended in soft light. The bars surrounding em are just gradients with shadows too.

About 7 layers in total..

It's a good thing im getting used to working with layers...the skeletons file is up over 130 layers now...but about half of them are shadows and lighting effects..

dam 7th May 2002 18:45

130 layer?Been there.Well nearly anyway.112 for my current skin.I'm gonna merge a few layer.

Mb/Pl/Avs done, a few small detail changes and it all goes together ok...(see attached screenshot).....

Just gotta do main and eq winshades, add in the bitrate, clean up a few small areas, do the plstacks, make some cursors and skin mikro....

Comments/suggestions??

Oh yeh, just in case youre wondering, the writing in the vis area for the main and pl is klingon script...

Atmo 8th May 2002 03:47

Done....

Download here. comments are welcome, and could someone bugtest it??

I'm not 100% happy with it, but i think it turned out better than i thought it would.

KiwiFreak 8th May 2002 03:56

I bug test it for you when I get home in a couple of hours and let you know...it looks good from the SS though.

Atmo 8th May 2002 04:02

I wish i had a job like yours kiwi.

And Mr. J's must be pretty cool too if he can browse the forums while working.

Have to add that the screenshot monster has struck again with this one...Gotta love those bright blue lines through the eq sliders..:igor:

KiwiFreak 8th May 2002 04:07

It's cool at the moment, but things are going to change shortly, we're going onto a new LAN and the security is going to be much tighter, as in monitoring what internet pages you're looking at and how long you spend on them, so in about a week I'll only be surfing from home:cry:

KiwiFreak 8th May 2002 06:04

OK...now for the bug test report:

The tiling along the top and bottom of the playlist & minibrowser need some attension.
The minimise, maxmise & close buttons on the Main window show a dark square behind them when in there pressed state
There semms to be some darker lines appear in the time display and the background couolr doesn't match the bitrate/Khz part
That's the only problems I can find...otherwise graet skin dude:up:

Atmo 8th May 2002 06:12

The tiling looks a little weird because of the texturing...I'll work on it.

I handnt noticed the squares in the pressed states for the main app buttons, but the close seems ok.

The lines in the time display and track info are because of the shadowing i used...not sure if i can fix it while keeping the shadows...but i'll try.

Thanks for the feedback kiwi, wouldnt have noticed some of them otherwise. :)

KiwiFreak 8th May 2002 06:20

No probs Atmo, that's what the forums are here for, i figured you may not have any other option with the tile thing or the numbers but i thought i'd mention it anyway.

Ciao

Atmo 8th May 2002 07:07

All those bugs fixed...The time display was easy to fix, just moved everything over 1 pixel and the lines dissapeared...Cleaned up the tiling, its a little too smooth now, but its better than before i think.

The app buttons were getting those weird squares cos i darkened the shadow layer while darkening the buttons...easy enuff to fix.

Resubmitted to winamp.com, not sure if its been updated yet.

Submitted to devart too.

Check it out here.

No probs...I feel honoured to have bug tested such a good skin;)

skinme! 8th May 2002 22:01

Congratulations. The square cbuttons look much better now for some reason. This deserves DD. I'm off to download the uncesnored Holly Valance video ;)

Jellby 9th May 2002 08:45

Golden Ring: DD 9th April, downloads 104 (in one month), satisfaction 66%

After midnight: DD 8th April, dowloads 661 (in two days), satisfaction 93%

Man, it seems like yours is much better than mine :)

(yes, I'm jealous. But almost all the negative comments I got are the same: "I don't like the color" :p)

Atmo 9th May 2002 09:25

Got knocked back at 1001...270kb when the max is 250...Tried converting it to 8bit .bmp's and it gets a little messed up...

Maybe next time....

Jellby 9th May 2002 09:44

Remove the unused cursors (wsclose, wsmin, wswinbut), if you have both numbers.bmp and nums-ex.bmp, remove numbers.bmp. Convert to 256 colours the simplest bmps (playpaus, text, numbers, cbuttons, monoster, mbinner...), use plain colours for the unseen areas in main and eqmain (this is what the zip-decreaser does).

That way I managed to reduce 330KB to less than 250KB with negligible quality loss :)

Ch33zels 9th May 2002 09:56

ooo Ch33zels has a new favourite skin:D:D:D

Atmo 9th May 2002 15:55

Jellby: There arent any cursors included, Nums-ex.bmp is there but numbers.bmp isnt.

The main.bmp and eqmain.bmp windows have approx 4000 individual colors each....so with a 256 color addaptive pallete they look weird.

270kb is the smallest it will get. :(

Sorry , not buying that, just downloaded it, opened the zip up, did you know you could shave a ton off the top of that, using this tool...

http://www.1001winampskins.com/winam...decreaser.html

I chopped 30kb off the size of my last skin using that little gadget.

Atmo 9th May 2002 16:23

Wow, that things great.

Knocked it back to 232kb and succesfully uploaded to 1001...Hope this one gets through, I hadnt skinned Mikro on my previous skins so couldnt submit them.

Thanks Mr. J :)

And just downloaded captain caveman from 1001 while i was there ;)

Definately the coolest mbinner ive seen......W007 :D

Jellby 9th May 2002 17:12

That was what I meant with:

I thought you already knew the program, sorry. And I didn't tell you about reducing the colour depth of main.bmp and eqmain.bmp, but the other little files, that can be more safely modified. Anyway, I spoke without looking at the bmps, they were just general suggestions I used for 2 of my skins.

Atmo 9th May 2002 17:27

Thats the first time ive used a program like that on any of my skins (apart from that region.txt generator but i havent finished any transparent skins)....

And i think i read your post a little too fast jellby...:o

And if i can, i try not to mix 8 bit .bmps with 24 bit .bmp's within a skin...I read something about that in a thread ages ago but couldnt find it...

dam 9th May 2002 17:55

I havent heard of any such problem.
