downloading wacs......

err, this might have been already talked about, but is it possible that we winampers will be able to download optional wacs so the download size will be smaller?

no....

this won't happen...(officially)

it will make it too complex for newbies

their will be a full, standard and lite version (by final)

and maybe someone would be nice enough to make the extra wac's avaliable via download to lite version users

Or use a web installer where you can select the components to be downloaded, before you install.

Web installers are nice for people with always-on internet, but sometimes it's good to have a prepackaged installer with everything you need in it, so you can install to offline machines and so you can throw it on a cd and hand it to any ol' user who might be not web-savvy enough to handle the webbased download (my father is a good example of that).

Or maybe, a web based installer with a download only mode, so you only download the components you want, then burn it to a cd (or something) and install it on the non internet pc, combining the benefits of a web install with the ability to use it offline as well

That's a pretty good compromise, but still, we're not talking about IE or Netscape here...the total download for everything the full install should have should be less than 5 megs (considerably less, actually). So, a single completely packacked full install is probably always going exist. But, maybe they'll offer several options for less-than-full installs (lite, standard, download-based).
