accidentally posted a kiddie porn link, realised his mistake, removed link, apologised. certain mods have got their panties up in a bunch about it and demanded some kind of punishment. guess this is it. also some personal agendas coming out of the woodwork too.

biblo is my boy and i back him 100% on his handling of this.

Child porn is very wrong no matter who you are. But Bilbo is still an alright guy.

I've never seen ass-kissing on such a scale. He made a mistake. Surely anyone else would not have posted a link, whether they thought the site was working or not, to a child porn site that a friend of theirs used. He should at least have checked it - he knows that sort of thing is a volatile topic. Personally, in that situation, I would simply have written "A child porn site".

No offence Bilbo mate, but that was a royal faux-pas. :)

What I can tell you is that Bilbo is temporary de-modded, he will return as a full mod again within a short period. An official announcement by an admin will be posted about this.

I can't say how long he's been suspended from moderating for, but I'm guessing that about 2 weeks is the typical price to pay in this situation;)

It might be a good idea for some of you to wait for an admin announcement before you jump to conclusions. The fact that there is going to be an admin announcement should illustrate that this wasnt simply "personal agendas coming out of the woodwork".

Twisting your words would imply that I took your comments and reused them to my advantage. I did not. Whether you want to infer some other meaning from what I posted is entirely up to you. Your call - not mine.

My point is simple - the people posting the most about this seem to be the people that know the least. You said yourself that you "guess this is it" (hope I'm not twisting your words). A post was made backstage, and moderators did add their feelings towards the subject. The majority felt that this was a stupid mistake, one that Bilbo himself corrected as soon as he was aware of the situation.

But moderators have to follow the same rules as every other member here, and if a member had posted that link, action would have been taken. Administration made the final decision, not the moderators, and they have promised to post an announcement regarding this issue in the General Discussions forum. Which is ultimately why every moderator hare has asked for the members to wait for admin to post an explanation.

He was talking about a very sick friend who used to go to child pornography sites. He posted a link to a site that used to be up. Apparently, the site had closed at some point in the past, and Bilbo naturally assumed it was closed permanently.

I wouldn't have posted even a dead link, but I can see how it could happen.

He'll be back as a mod later, so I'm content. :)

Okay everyone,

I appologize for my not posting here earlier but let me fill you in with what's going on. Basically, last week, there was a discussion going on about pornography and/in schools.

Bilbo was speaking of a friend which he has that is interested in a variety of different types of pornography, one of which was even child-porn. He then posted a link stupidly to a child porn site which he thought had been down for some time, realizing only moments after that this link was infact still active. He then scrambled to remove the link from his post.

Regardless, the damage was done. Bilbo had made a VERY careless mistake of posting a link to something that's just morally wrong within any civilized society. He has expressed his sincere appologies for such a irresponsible act, however, this type of behavior cannot and will not be tollerated by ANY member, whether they are a mod or not.

After dicussing this issue with many mods, we feel that this deed, even if it was a mistake, requires a punishment. We decided that Bilbo's moderator powers will be stripped for a period of two weeks as a warning, not only to himself, but everyone. These types of things can not and will not have a home on these forums. You can talk about how you might hate it or whatever, but NEVER post ANY sort of link to it, EVER.

Bilbo will be back in active duty in a few short weeks. I hope that everyone can learn from this experience and realize that you should always think about what you're doing before you do it, cause everything can have a consequence attached to it.
