ok, i know this has been posted before, but i cant find a solution :)
 

HELLO :) ok, my winamp (2.79 or 2.80) wont play any sound. Ive tried to uninstall and reinstall, associate the wavout plug in, the volume is turned up on the player, not muted (and yes, the speakers are turned on :) ) but still not a peep. Another thing, the hubby uses musicmatch (he hates winamp and i dont like mm) and he gets sound. does anyone have any other tips I can try?? Thank you in advance.

Have you tried using the DirectSound output?

As c2r said, check what output plugin you have selected. GO to preferences (CTRL-P) -> plugins -> output and select the WaveOut plugin from the list. If that doesn't work, co abck to -> output and select the directsound plugin instead.

You have not told us what file types that you are trying to play. If they are CD's, you might want to try installing the CD Reader plugin. Be sure to read the associated readme file first though, as it explains how to disable the default plugin.

Don't discount sabotage by the hubby. :D
