how can I copy SVIDEO CD's?

rm' 11th June 2002 17:21

Do you mean VCD? I don't think there is such a thing as an SVideo CD...

c2R 11th June 2002 17:24

There is... Super VideoCDs use MpegII compression to get better quality.

You should be able to use a combination of TMPGENC, VirtualDub if you want to rip it.

I didn't think it was a protected format though, so you should just be able to copy the data to another CD using any generic CD writing program.

SVideo and SVCD are not the same thing... and as I understood it, the main difference between SVCDs and VCDs are that SVCDs support more complex menus... but I am likely wrong :-)

Curi0us_George 11th June 2002 17:48

Super Video CDs don't use a different codec. They support higher resolution (than standard VCDs). That's the difference.

Don't say SVideo unless you are talking about an S-Video port or cable. SVideo really isn't a type of CD.

Any decent cd copying program should be able to copy the CD. If they won't for some reason, then try CloneCD. It should work on any CD.

I've got this problem of a movie that is 4CD's, but I am not able to copy them :(

Curi0us_George 11th June 2002 17:51

Wait, are these the files you were having problems with in the other thread?

If you have the original CDs, you should be able to just copy them. If you have some sort of files on your disk, then you need to find out exactly what format they are in (hint: find out how, and with what program, the files were ripped from the disks).

simon snowflake 11th June 2002 18:07

ok I'm giving up, I have to give them cd's back tomorrow, and I won't be able to do so if I want to make a copy :(

Curi0us_George 11th June 2002 18:23

Answer my questions, and maybe we can help.

You need to try CloneCD. That should do the job perfectly.

simon snowflake 12th June 2002 11:23

CloneCD as in application or as in a option in a application like NERO?

BMWboy 12th June 2002 16:42

yes, but much smaller and it is only able to copy CDs. however, it can defeat most forms of copyright protection.

zorpidus 12th June 2002 16:58

SVCDs use MPEG-2 while regular VCDs use MPEG-1 compression. Ofcourse this has implications on the resolution, because that of MPEG-1 is rather limited...

You can only play SVCDs if you have an MPEG-2 decoder, so any software DVD player will do fine, cause DVDs use the same decoder...

carefull guys..dont want to make this thread become a hackers lounge!!
i too would like to know how to copy a music cd or movie. my friend just bought the new eminem cd and i want a copy, but my puter tells me no!:D

zorpidus 12th June 2002 17:16

CloneCD makes bit-to-bit copies... Therefore you can (in theory) copy any protected cd with it. It will just copy the copy-protection as well :)

Key2Audio, which is the copy-protection protocol applied to many of the new cds, doesn't however allow the cd to be read in many brands of CD-ROM or DVD players...

pixiefied 12th June 2002 17:19

ok,so which is the best one to use? i tryed to do it once and the cd came out blank.
