is it just me...

...or is that right click disabling script fucking annoying! i was just at a site that had it. can someone explain to me wtf the point of it is? cuz it doesn't stop you from stealing images. its just a pain cuz you can't hit back or refresh.

dam 13th June 2002 18:44

Yup its quite annoying.
If you really wanna use the back buttons you should get Opera. No need to rightclick.

_Blackdog_ 13th June 2002 18:46

yeah but the new oprah has major security issues

Trigear 13th June 2002 19:09

it all just gives the webmaster a false sense of security. that's right, lull him to sleep while we sneak up behind him with clubs...

tjb2004 13th June 2002 19:33

All you have to do is hold down the right mouse button then, while holding the button down, press enter. Then let go of the mouse button after pressing enter then presto, right click.

If you are adamant about leeching, create a webpage with a link to the page with the anti-leech script. Open up this webpage in your browser, right click, and "Save link as..."

Then you can just view the source, and get the addresses to the images, linked files, and so forth.

_Blackdog_ 13th June 2002 20:06

or i could just hit View/Source on the toolbar.

Bilbo Baggins 13th June 2002 20:14

Scripts like that are designed to stop people stealing your original images. I think they are good.

_Blackdog_ 13th June 2002 20:15

but they dont stop anyone. (well they stop some people, but not many) they're just a pain in the ass

Yes, but that wouldn't get the Rube Goldberg seal of approval.

Do the scripts stop someone from hitting the "Print Screen" key and them pasting into a graphics editor? If it doesn't (and the picture fits on the screen) it's totally useless.

This was taken from metallica.com, They've been using many different techniques to keep you from DLing their pictures for quite a while. Their current technique is using a flash viewer.

Wasnt he the man who drew complex and grand machines that only performed a very small and simple task??

tjb2004 13th June 2002 23:57

But ie 6 allows you to save images just by hovering over one.

hold left mouse button in. then hold right mouse button in. let go of left mouse button, then let go of right mouse button. there ya go. Right click enabled.

Or, do it the IE 6 way dam said

or, take a screen shot and crop in MS paint (or other program)

or, save the webpage as html and get the file in one of the folders

Or, drag and drop the pic into MS paint (or other program)

Nobody can defeat the Print Screen on your keyboard.

The only way to truly prevent image grabbing is watermarks ala corbis.

CrowbarTK Hullo 14th June 2002 15:54

no right-click is useless. all you need to do is highlight the image, and then control+c. and then there's the temp internet files folder...
